Obama's policy, which anticipates eliminating imports by 2012 or earlier...
Iceland was 80 percent dependent on imported coal and oil in the 1970s and was among the poorest economies in Europe.
Today, Iceland is 100 percent energy independent, and according to the International Monetary Fund is now the fourth most affluent nation on Earth.

Just so you know what I scream at the TV everytime they bring up ‘alternative energy’ duing debates, interviews, etc:
When the government talks about supporting alternative energy they mean giving taxpayer money to energy companies to pay for inefficient, non profitable boondoggles like the Pickins wind farms. McCain should have bragged everytime Obama accused him of voting against alternative energy.
If alternative energy was really a good alternative they wouldn’t need taxpayer money to prop them up.
Note 1: “While Pickens touts a plan in the name of environmentalism that will also line his company’s pockets, a #dontgo investigation has revealed that another environmental champion and backer of Proposition 10 has also invested in CLNE: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California.
According to the investigation, Pelosi purchased $50,000-$100,000 in CLNE stock on May 25, 2007, apparently on its initial public offering.”

Note 2: Since the highest energy demands tend to be when the wind is at its lowest, and vice virsa, wind farms do not provide much in terms of efficiency. There are also many physics problems that have not been overcome (Betz’ Law). You still have to have just as many traditional energy sources to make up for the shortage when wind power poops out.

IIRC, the last great “green gold rush” was in Holland in the 1600’s, involving tulip bulbs.
That's the problem. He's not stupid. He and his mentors have a plan to destroy this country and replace it with a communist state. And he is working very hard to achieve it. The Cloward-Piven Strategy of Orchestrated Crisis
***Eatin’ Obama Stew***
There’s a big, brown cloud in the city,
And the countryside’s a sin.
An’ the price of gas is too high to give up,
Gotta come down again.
When the world wide war is over and done,
And the dream of peace comes true.
We’ll all be drinkin’ free gin & juice,
and Eatin’ Obama stew.
When they find out how to burn water,
And the gasoline car is gone.
When an airplane flies without any fuel,
And the satellite heats our home.
One of these days when the air clears up,
And the sun comes shinin’ through.
We’ll all be drinkin’ free gin & juice,
and eatin’ Obama stew.
Eatin’ Obama stew in a silver spoon,
Underneath that sky of blue.
All be drinkin’ free gin & juice,
An’ eatin’ Obama stew.
Iceland is geologically anomalous and unlike almost any other country on earth. It sits on a huge “hot spot” on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, where enormous amounts of hot molten rock rise from the depths, creating numerous volcanoes and geysers, any one of which has many times the energy output of even one of William Ayers’ famous bombs, or Algore’s mammoth domestic household usage, or one of Ted Kennedy’s alcoholic belches. Zerobama’s theories that trivial sources like “wind and solar” are the answer are absolutely assinine. Too bad McCain lacks the brains to make that point.
Yup. Iceland is broke. We have FOUR times the Saudis reserves in shale oil, coal diesel and ND oil at $30 a barrel. PElosi, Reid and Obama just want to make the Saudis richer.
There is a mothballed geothermal plant near El Centro CA.
It was built after the last energy crisis, but never operated, because of high operating costs.
Hot fluids from the earth=corrosion.
Here’s one everybody will understand. Ever been to Yellowsone Park? They used to have metal handrails aound some of the geysers and paint pots, but they didn’t last very long. I think most of them are wood now.
It would be amusing, to say the least, to hear Odumbo’s answer to that question.
Guess the ‘green’ in Iceland disappeared so fast they will need some of Russia’s petro dollars to stave off bankruptcy. Bot only that Mr. Kennedy, Iceland is a country of 350,000 people with vast geo thermal resources. We are a country with over 300 million and lots of land to traverse. Will the enviro-nazis ever learn?? My guess is no.
The first green ‘gold rush’ is already a bust. The ethanol whores at ADM sucjed up the $ and we paid in higher food prices. Now even the gov’t 50cent a gallon subsidy and tariffs on Brazilian ethanol can’t keep e85 competitive with unleaded. In our area gas prices have fallen so fast refular unleaded sells for less than E85. Even a moron with a flex fuel vehicle would be out of his mind to put the E85 in his tank. It gets about 20% worse fuel mileage than regular unleaded.
Ethanol plants around the midwest are shuttering due to high corn prices and low ethanol selling price. A perfect example of gov’t intervention creating a new industry built on faulty economic assumptions. Now it is imploding and nobody should be surprised one bit.
Then they'll just blame the lack of wind on "global warming".
Oh snap. Low hanging fruit. Somebody better hit the damn thing out of the park. Or at least let people know that so far the only ones to get rich from this have done so through extortion and bribery.
You got it right. Small business depends upon the basic factors of economics like land, labor and capital, and, then add all the Gov red tape from the EEOC, WC, ADA, to tax policy.
Since Obama thinks $250 K a year is wealthy, he is going to kill most small businesses with 10-20 employees or more. If these small businesses are to survive, while paying higher taxes, they will have to pass that extra tax cost on to the consumer.
So Obama hurts the small businessman/woman plus digs into the wallets of the folks that he claims to protect. A bouble whammy.
This must be some foreign and/or socialist economics philospy I never took in 30 semester hours of Econ. Frankly, I doubt if Obama knows a damn thing about econ or business.
