I am not a conventionally religious man, or even a very superstitious one, but I do wish George W. Bush would stop asking God to bless America.
Every time he does, we seem to be visited with another plague, suggesting divine wrath over our president's evil ways. How else to explain the persistent calamity that has marked this administration: a pointless but very costly war over nonexistent Iraqi WMD, the destruction by flood of New Orleans, the betrayal of the nation by the moneychangers - from Enron to Goldman Sachs - who Bush welcomed into the temple of the White House?
What's next? Pestilence, frogs, locusts or incurable boils? Dare we risk four more years of catastrophic misrule by a "W" alter ego? For those indifferent to the serious implications of that question, I recommend Oliver Stone's new bio-flick, which brilliantly captures the "banality of evil" that has controlled our political life these past eight years. The phrase, from Hannah Arendt's depiction of the mundane cruelty that so marked much of the daily experience of European fascism, has a frightening resemblance to the mindset of the Republican leadership that has damaged this nation's reputation for democratic integrity.
Cynicism rules even as ritualistic prayer breaks, as depicted in the film "W," abound. The pretense of piety earns the president and his accomplices a get-out-of-jail-free card; at no point in the film, with scenes captured so accurately and far more depressingly from real life, do any in the top ranks of

who cares what that hateful a-hole has to say?
Come on, tell us how you really feel... LOL.
I saw the previews of ‘W’ and I was struck by how cartoonish it looked. I looked more like a really bad high school AV club or drama club movie than one made by someone who is supposed to be an “accomplished*” Hollywood director.
*I use the term accomplished very loosely considering that this is an Oliver Stone movie since he is nothing more than a thinner, drama movie oriented version of Michael Moore.
Ummmmm, could it be GOD’s anti-abortion wrath?
New Orleans the cesspool of the planet flushed out.
He is a small, petty, and mean spirited man that was so farleft that he couldn't keep his job in the LA Times editorial section. And he only got the job in the first place because he was bedding down one of the managing editors.
Leftists have mastered the art of sticking a gun in your face, demanding your billfold, then telling you that the increase in crime is your fault.
Robert Sheer????/ Geez, wasn’t anyone from Pravda available?
I find it interesting that this guy places Oliver Stone above God. If he read the Bible, he wouldn’t have these views. I think he’s reaching out there a bit and just trying to sell movie tickets.
Sheer is a typical atheist Democrat.
In the ten years that I have been here the majority of the 7,000 or so threads that I have posted have been by liberals or other people who disagree with us. Someone who understands things better than I do usually comes along and sets the record straight for me. If I didn't people people like Bob Scheer, I wouldn't be as good at responding in real like to people who thinh like him, or people who quote him.
Here’s to God letting the liberals live AMONGST THEMSELVES in the next life in their own Shangri-La! I don’t think they could handle not being able to control someone else and make them suffer and dish out the hate that fills them. What a pathetic article from a nasty little rat. The light will be shone on the Demonrats and the myth goes down along with this country if Obama gets in.
This should help if he really feels that everything bad happens when we ask “God To Bless America”, Lord and our God, please bless Robert Scheer!
How do you abuse a legacy?
Someone needs to teach this fellow how to think.
Also take a look at who/what passes themselves off as 'His Church' and how (and WHAT!) they 'worship' in it...and they expect His blessings?!?
Maybe take a look-see at just how many human sacrifices have been offered on the altar of Molech, by 'passing their children through the fire' at their friendly, local abortatorium.
And that is just the surface scum; you'd need a special suit to explore the murky depths of that cesspool.
It is due to many reasons, but President Bush asking God to bless America isn't one of them.
The whole article is Scheer idiocy, indeed.
Robert Scheer is a gibbering baboon. Nothing he says is worth listening to. Nothing he writes is worth reading.
Stone has more talent in his pinky than Moore has in entire body.
