Obama Admits Bumming Cigarettes on the Campaign Trail

Posted on 10/08/2008 7:58:42 AM PDT by mimi from mi

He's setting a wonderful example for the youth of America. I admit that I'm a smoker, but I'm not running for president.

According to those I know who have quit for more than 20 years (family members)....sadly, that answer is no.

I used to hear that before I quite smoking. But for me that hasn't been the case at all. Since my late teens I had smoked nearly 1 1/2 to 2 packs a day for 17 years.

Then came a major wake up call: A trip to the emergency room because of severe chest pains revealed evidence of a heart attack--or so I was told by the attending physician. I was ordered to the ICU immediately, where I spent the worst night of my life. I vowed to God and the world never to smoke again if I got out of there.

My cardiologist showed up the next morning and said that the emergency room physician had made a big mistake. In fact, there was no evidence of a heart attack. Talk about relief.

The doctor's mistake was a blessing for which I'm deeply grateful. With the help of the patch I stopped smoking immediately. And that was in December 1997. I've not touched a cig since and have had almost no cravings in years.

I don’t think I could handle it if I lived in a house with a smoker. My wife has never smoked but the majority of our family (her side and mine) does. We now have a smoke free home but with less visitors than in the past.

You would think that he could at least buy his own smokes...

He's a liberal. Libs scrounge off of other people, no matter what it is.

If it gets much worse, I’m gonna start smoking again, and I stopped three years ago! Cancer and emphysema? They can’t get me before the Republic melts down anyway, so why not go ahead and enjoy the smokes while I can get them and smoke them on my porch?

Don’t worry about it...you have a RIGHT to healthcare...Bambi said so.

This must be the first presidential candidate to bum cigarettes from potential voters.

I was in High School in the early 70’s, too. We would smoke in the girls room. Whoever happened to have a cigarette on them passed it around.. It was a Group Grub!

I wonder if the urge ever leaves.

I quit 13 years ago and I assure you it doesn't. You just have to keep fighting it.

A really interesting book to read is one by a notorious liberal, Seymour Hersch, called “The Dark Side of Camelot”.

In this book he details the frequent hookups with hookers that JFK engaged in while president. In many cases the Secret Service had no idea of who the girls were and there was real concern that they could be in the employ of people who did not wish the US well.

There were SS agents who legitimately did not know if they would come in and find JFK dead or alive the next morning.

JFK did ultimately meet with an untimely demise but it wasn’t a hooker that did him in (although screwing a mob bosses girlfriend, Judith Exner, might have played a role, who knows).

Well, if he’s going to advocate a national smoking ban for everyone else, it is our business that he smokes.

Us white boys used to hold up our clenched right hand and say “right arm” back at em’. Did you go too school in South Jersey?

Sounds more like North Jersey to me!
