Florida Republican leaders hastily convened a top secret meeting this week to grapple with Sen. John McCain's sagging performance in this must-win state.
Their fears were confirmed Wednesday when four new polls showed Sen. Barack Obama leading, a reversal from just a few weeks ago when McCain was opening up an advantage....
One of the concerns has been the relationship between grass roots volunteers across the state and far fewer paid campaign staffers. Complaints range from not getting yard signs quickly enough to knowing who will speak at events and overall manpower coordination....
McCain supporter and former Republican Party of Florida chairman Tom Slade said he's been hearing rumblings over the past few weeks that the campaign is not fully utilizing volunteers, though he said that was not the case in Jacksonville.
"I get the sense that on the statewide basis, the grass roots Republicans don't quite feel like they have a natural fit within the McCain organization," Slade said....

I've yet to find a GOP Headquarters in Monroe County
There's an Obama store on Duval Street

This election has really made me sick! It was bad enough I had to swallow the “McCain is your nominee so support him because Obama sucks” pill; but now McCain won’t even fight his own battles, and I’m expected to carry his water for him. He has mismanaged his campaign so incredibly that either it’s on purpose or he never wanted to really win in the first place.
He closes his speech at the RNC by saying “Fight with me, Fight with me” but hell he won’t even fight. When he has the opportunity to demonstrate his “pen”’s power at cutting pork, he instead uses it to wholeheartedly endorse the bailout bill saying “No bill is perfect.” and that the people who oppose the bill “just don’t understand.” It’s not that I’m not going to vote for McCain; I will because there is no other option, but I am tired of being treated like an outcast by McCain and his campaign because I’m conservative.
Now the state GOPs are meeting to figure out how to help a man win who seems intent on ensuring a victory for Obama. I wish McCain would fight for me; or at least FIGHT WITH ME to win this election.
There are only so many times I can turn my cheek and swallow everything I believe in to support McCain without him doing something. Yes he chose Palin, but since then he’s kept her caged, and clipped her wings. Heck he won’t even fight for her when it’s revealed the moderator of her debate wrote a glowing book about the impact Obama has had on politics.
Let me end this rant by begging Sen. McCain to please fight with me to win this election.
Sorry for the rant, but I think perhaps this article was the last straw I could take this morning. :o)
Sarah Palin is our last, best hope. Pray for her tonight.
Problem in Florida is the same problem everywhere else: John McCain thinks Democrats want to be “bipartisan” five weeks before an election.
this is very frustrating...
Florida is a MUST WIN for McCain!!!
What is wrong with the republican party????
That is marxism. Free everything run by the government. They like the idea. The Bolshevicks are upon us and in the majority. The politicians know it.
By now I think it safe to say, you probably can't believe anything written in the news. It's all political and it's all one sided.
Bwahahahahahahaha !!!!!!!
That’s freaking hilarious.
Palin is all McCain has going for him right now. Anyone who buys the bilge in that article is too stupid to vote, anyway.
McCain is a wuss. He won’t fight. He wants to be all cute and cuddly with this “bipartisan” nonsense. This is the legacy of Bush and Bush, Jr: A Republican party that refuses to fight, but instead wants to be “bipartisan” in order to gain popularity with the left-wing media.
Always remember what ‘compassionate conservatism’ has brought us.
The left hates Palin because she is the epitome of everything they say we can’t do without their help.............
The believe everything they see on the news. That’s the problem right there.
Took me a month to get my stickers.......still no yard signs. Last night we had a family project and made our own and for those in the neighborhood who wanted one. Grassroots will beat the marketing magicians every day of the week
It is not a big secret.
Keep in mind this is from an I-4 coridor paper.
Obama has FLOODED the central line of florida. (essentially tampa through orlando to daytona)
It is billboards with mcsame, and commericals with his smarmy sleaze all the time.
INTERESTINGLY that is the line where there are the most churches. McCAin needs to reach out to christian conservative leaders to get their members in gear.
This election in FL turns on orlando.
Oh, that's right. They're Dems, so of course they're idiots.
It starts with a flag with the Obama logo flying in full screen. A narrarator starts talking about how people get tired of the same old thing and that sometimes they get the impulse to embrace something new.
Then, fly an American flag and narrarator then says that some symbols have more meaning and are more timeless and important than others.
Someone else can think of more stirring words to describe Old Glory as more than a fad but I think it would make an exciting ad and showcase Obama's arrogance.
MONROE COUNTY ( KEY WEST IS OBAMA COUNTRY I WOULD 'T WASTE A DIME THERE EITHER.
THESE POLLS ARE TRULY LIES
THE PANHANDLE WILL VOTE 75 TO 80% MCCAIN. TALLAHASSEE WILL VOTE OBAMA. SOUTH FLORIDA WILL BE CLOSER WITH AN EDGE SLIGHTLY TO OBAMA
THE ELECTION WILL BE DECIDED ON I-4 TAMPA TO ORLANDO.
MC CAIN WINS BY 5.
It seems every time McCain reaches back across the aisle and tries to move to the moderate-left, he loses a few more points in the polls.
The Palin effect is probably over. She might help the ticket gain a few points in the debate tonight. But, even if she doesn, McCain will lose them during the month, as he continues to be the same ole McCain.
