Florida Republican leaders hastily convened a top secret meeting this week to grapple with Sen. John McCain's sagging performance in this must-win state.
Their fears were confirmed Wednesday when four new polls showed Sen. Barack Obama leading, a reversal from just a few weeks ago when McCain was opening up an advantage....
One of the concerns has been the relationship between grass roots volunteers across the state and far fewer paid campaign staffers. Complaints range from not getting yard signs quickly enough to knowing who will speak at events and overall manpower coordination....
McCain supporter and former Republican Party of Florida chairman Tom Slade said he's been hearing rumblings over the past few weeks that the campaign is not fully utilizing volunteers, though he said that was not the case in Jacksonville.
"I get the sense that on the statewide basis, the grass roots Republicans don't quite feel like they have a natural fit within the McCain organization," Slade said....

For crying out loud, what is wrong with people?
What has happened to my country?
LOL! Did they wear their secret decoder rings at this “Top Secret” meeting?
My thought for the day is that they are embracing the allure of marxism. We may now be in the minority. What do you think?
In Tennessee, I have seen 1 sign that said McCain/Palin. I asked where they got and her neighbor said the lady worked at the local GOP office, but when I called, none to give out.
I don’t get it. What are campaign dollars going for if not distributing campaign material. I don’t remember having to go online to order bumper stickers before because I couldn’t get any! Our local sheriff even has signs available for free.
I ordered a bumper sticker and yard sign and it took over two weeks to be delivered. I thought they took my money and were not going to send anything.
“What has happened to my country?”
I know, it’s crazy! People don’t know or don’t care about what they’re voting for. They’ve been drinking the liberals’ kool-aid, and are now supporting perhaps one of the most liberal socialists that have ever been running for election.
They’ve been listening to the Obamanation’s lies of “hope” and “change,” when, in reality, he will bring disaster to our nation.
I’m amazed that there’s people who call themselves “Christians” that are supporting Obama! His extreme positions on abortion alone should say “Don’t vote for him!”
God, have mercy on America! If this radical socialist is elected President, then God help us all!
I think you are correct, either knowingly or not the populist rhetoric of Marxism is winning the day, it always has. It just now we are in fact a slight minority in this country but enough of one to lose national elections.
Another article from the same paper:
One Thought Pushes Fence-Sitters To The Left: PalinThis suggests a problem more fundamental than ineptitude at distributing lawn signs and assigning manpower....Five weeks ago, the St. Petersburg Times convened a group of Tampa Bay voters who were undecided about the presidential election. Their strong distrust of Barack Obama suggested it was a group ripe for John McCain to win over.
Not anymore. The group has swung dramatically, if unenthusiastically, toward Democrat Obama. Most of them this week cited the same reason: Sarah Palin.
"The one thing that frightens me more than anything else are the ideologues. We've seen too many," said 80-year-old Air Force veteran Donn Spegal, a lifelong Republican from St. Petersburg, who sees McCain's new running mate as the kind of "wedge issue" social conservative that has made him disenchanted with his party....
They are not embracing Marxism they just want the Government to pay mortgages for less fortunate. They might get free healthcare out of it as well.

McCain is running a terrible campaign. He is playing defense right now when he needs to be hitting Obama hard. Lord knows there is enough ammo out there on Obama. Playing cautious is fine when you are winning but its suicide when you are slipping. If the election is held today Obama is the next president. Period. McCain has to start hitting him soon.
McCain has chosen to throw the base under his bus here in Florida. If he wants to fill that gap, follow barry’s lead and send out his supporters to pick up illegals, derelicts, mentally challenged, homeless, etc., give them papers and get them registered and take them to the polls. He’s moved away from the base and the base is moving away from him. He’s probably lost many of them.
This is BS. McCain won this state comfortably in the primary. In fact, it is FL that killed the Romney campaign and handed the primary to McCain. The entire state party infrastructure was utilized to promote McCain. Ever list I have ever been on in this state was used for emailing and direct mail.
That said, we have to get going and work to elect this team.
Why do hate Palin so much??
I ordered 5 signs and some buttons about 2 weeks ago. I called yesterday, the order still hasn't processed.
I know it dawned on me last night. I have been talking to friends who are for Obama. They do not care that he is a Communist. In fact some like it. They are much younger than me but I would of never thought they would go for Marxism.
Do you check to see if that so called Life LonG republican is really ONE!!! The oldest press trick in the book !
The ST Pete Slimes are LIARS and FRAUDS !
