Republican presidential nominee John McCain has a slight edge over Democratic rival Barack Obama among suburban voters, drawing his strongest support from men and affluent married couples with children, according to a new poll released yesterday.
Overall, 48 percent of suburban voters said they supported McCain, compared with 42 percent for Obama, according to the poll conducted for Hofstra's National Center for Suburban Studies.
The spiraling economic decline ranked as their chief concern in the presidential election and their personal lives: 46 percent said it is the issue they most want to hear the candidates discuss, while 49 percent reported that they or someone they know has lost a job in the past year.
So even as the economic crisis cuts into McCain's poll numbers nationally, his slim support among suburban voters suggests "that he very much has a fighting chance" in November, said Lawrence Levy, director of the Suburban Studies center.

If thats the Best McCain can do in the Suburbs he is toast because he is going to get slaughterd in the cities
If he can’t do better than 48% this nation is the new USSR.
Suburbia is probably where the Bradley/Wilder effect is most strong.
Add 2 points to McCain and subtract 2 points from BHO. That’s how I adjust (almost) every poll I see.
Obama loses a little in every subgroup but makes it up on volume. Someone neeeds to explain to me how that is possible, and more, the volume has him winning in a walk.
Obama could be running away with California, New York, Illinois and New England outside New Hampshire in the sampling and the poll numbers. Leads of 20%, even up to 30%, might be happening for Obama in those states.
This might help explain why McCain leads in so many demographics, yet the overall national poll numbers favour Obama.
Yep. The demogaphics of the cities + ACORN = Obama.
I saw a “I’m voting for the old white guy” bumper sticker on a yuppie car the other day.
In other news, he’s got the THINKING voter edge in a big way. I bet he wins the THINKING voter demographic by 90 points.
I was watching Fox News this a.m.. The roving reporter was in Bucks County, PA, trying to interview people in a diner about the bailout plan. Even though the reporter stated that off camera, everyone was talking about the bailout, when the camera lights were on, NOBODY wanted to talk. All the patrons were white.
I’m reading this as trouble for 0bama. White people are very skittish of the media, and fear getting tagged with the racist label. But once the curtain is pulled in the voting booth, the Bradley/Wilder effect will be quite pronounced.
I think you are absolutely correct. There will be quite a few people especially among pollsters and the media who will be scratching their heads after the election wondering....what happened....we had it in the bag didn’t we? LMAO, Im going to love it. They are so out of touch with mainstream America they really believe their own lies.
