Nancy Pelosi blamed for Wall Street bailout defeat

It was perhaps the costliest ad lib in political history, 90 seconds of ill-judged, ill-timed bile that helped to kill off any hope of consensus on Capitol Hill.

That was the charge against Nancy Pelosi after Congress’s rejection of the $700 billion Wall Street bailout plan yesterday, a rejection that Republicans blamed directly on her aggressive and overtly partisan speech shortly before the vote.

As Speaker of the House and second in line to the presidency after Dick Cheney, the most powerful woman in US political history has never been one to keep her thoughts to herself. Even at a time of national crisis she can be relied on to have a dig at President Bush.

But as she deviated from her prepared remarks on the floor of the House yesterday, Ms Pelosi appears to have gone too far. At a time of heightened sensitivities all around, she deployed the C-word — Clinton — and helped to give a group of Republicans the excuse they were waiting for to walk away from the bailout.

I'd imagine 9% Nancy's approval rating took a nosedive after that performance. Prior to yesterday, she has been an embarrassment as well as a failure (epitome of do-nothing Congress). After yesterday, her fangs came out for all to see. How unprofessional and unAmerican. She needs to resign.

Pelosi was a nasty bi#ch to think that she could be so nasty just before the vote. It was awful, you don’t kick a dog when it’s down. That woman is awful.

I saw Kucinich give an excellent analysis of what's wrong with the bailout bill.
It's a shame that the only thing Republicans are being recognized for is that they've got their panties in a twist because of Pelosi's speech.

The truth is, most of the Republicans who voted NAY announced they were doing so in various forms of media well before Nancy ever gave her ever-so-charming speech.

I think she did it on purpose. As the economy falls Dems poll numbers raise. Think about it!

Karl Rove was on O’Reilly last night and said that before Peolsi’s ridiculously partisan speech, she personally gave permission to several of her dem friends in California and those dems in vunerable districts to vote NO on the bill.

The fact that she even called for a vote before knowing if she had the votes in her own party makes her the most incompetent Speaker ever. The dems think they can lay ‘blame’ for its failure to pass on the Republicans, but they are wrong. Word is finally creeping out that 95 dems voted NO and it is us little people that defeated this bill.

Someone needs to ask Barney, the gay lisper, why so many in his own committee didn’t vote for it either. Maybe he could have said all kinds of nice things about them since he knows their names.

I'm speaking of those who were. And there were some, according to Boehner.
