GREENSBURG, PA Joe Bidens emotions got the best of him at a campaign stop in Western Pennsylvania, as he recalled the great kindness done to him and his family by one of the areas iconic families.
After being introduced by Pittsburgh Steelers owner and Obama supporter Dan Rooney, the VP candidate who wears his heart on his sleeve told how the the scion of that football family helped him out when he was at his lowest.
Sorry to take your time, but Mr. Rooney reminded me of this, Dan reminded me by just seeing him, he said telling the crowd about the car accident in 1972 that killed his wife and daughter and left his sons in serious condition in the hospital.
They wouldnt let us have a Christmas tree in, understandably, into the hospital because of concern about fire. So I went to K-mart to get a synthetic tree that would, you know, so Id be able to bring it in and have something there at Christmas for the kids, he said. One of the few times I was away from their bed for a couple hours, I came back and they looked like they had lighted up my Christmas trees.
My one boy was in traction, and my other little boy had a fractured skull. And they were happy. They each separately had a football in their bed.
At this point, Biden looked down and paused for 15 seconds to collect himself. Excuse me, he said, wiping his eyes. The crowd applauded.

He tore what up?
Bidens story is a trgedy, but it gets to a point where he is using this too much. It was 35 years ago.
He’s going to claim that his run for the Veepee brought out too many emotions so he will have to step down.
Stealing from Hillary now?
Tears of a clown.
He probably had to borrow one of Barney Franks ahem, rectal devices (some kind of plug?), to get the tears to flow.....
Gov Palin... hush up or I'll really give you something to cry about.
“Sorry to take your time, but Mr. Rooney reminded me of this, Dan reminded me by just seeing him, he said telling the crowd about the car accident in 1972 that killed his wife and daughter and left his sons in serious condition in the hospital.”
I see that he no longer says “killed by a drunk driver” the lying POS. Imagine making political points off your dead wife? POS.
perfect....Tears of a Clown. sums up biden nicely
Well, my respect and admiration for the Steelers just took a nosedive. This is a football organization that represents blue-collar, hard-working folks who bust their ass and then get together with friends and family to watch their team. I hope they lose all their fricking games this year and note to Rush - the 60s Packers were the greatest dynasty in pro football.
The hell they don't. But rarely in public.
Is Obama going to slam Biden for the tears like he did Hillary? I’d probably get choked up too, honestly. However, it’s rather hard for me to feel overly sympathetic when he has lied numerous times about the accident itself in an effort to gain EXTRA sympathy (saying they were killed by a drunk driver when there was no alcohol involved, and by all accounts it was unfortunately his wife’s mistake that led to the accident).
Sorry, but I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt on this one.... I don’t agree with Biden politically, but I’m not going to rob him of his humanity.
I can no more say for certain he didn’t tear up genuinely, than I can say McCain didn’t during his recounting of his time in Vietnam.
Doesn’t change how I feel about Biden in the least, and he may have cried as a scripted moment, and if he did shame on him, but I’m not going to just assume that’s what happened.
Biden must be one of those metrosexuals I keep hearing about. Does he carry a manbag too?
Ha!
aw, biden’s crying.....get him a kleenex...he might smear his makeup.
didn’t he get the memo to get back to Washington and debate our financial crisis? what’s he doing in PA?
Agreed. The remarks on this thread are hateful, callous and cruel.
