Began lurking occasionally during the Clinton-Lewinsky mess, reading World Net Daily. Increased the lurking during the Y2K buildup and the election cycle. Finally, the hanging chads got me and I signed up. I probably would have signed up a year and a half earlier, but I was reading a lot of Claire Wolfe at the time, keeping my head down.
I was working nights during the 2000 election. Followed links and found FR.
Lurked all the way through 9/11. It was the only thing that kept me going.
Signed up some time later.

My husband had bookmarked it on the computer where it sat for probably a couple years. I would look at it now and then but never got really interested until the Bush memo/Rathergate issue.
When I saw how FReepers broke that story of it being forged, I was hooked. Lurked for a while before I signed up.
During the 2000 recount I needed information and I stumbled upon this site. It literally helped me keep my sanity. I’ll never forget when the Supreme Court decision was announced. I was on here, the decision was being read on the steps of the courthouse by a reporter. Some on the beginning of the thread said “Oh no.” Then the calmer voices started analyzing the decision. What a relief.
