ABC News George Stephanopoulos and Rick Klein report: Sen. John McCain on Wednesday said he would suspend his presidential campaign to come to Washington to help negotiate a financial bailout bill, a dramatic move designed to seize a powerful issue.
However a senior Obama campaign official said Obama "intends to debate."
"The debate is on," a senior Obama campaign official told ABC News.
McCain said he called on the Commission on Presidential Debates to postpone the debate scheduled for Friday in Mississippi, to ensure quick congressional action.
I have spoken to Senator Obama and informed him of my decision and have asked him to join me, McCain planned to say in New York City, according to advance excerpts released by his campaign. I am calling on the president to convene a meeting with the leadership from both houses of Congress, including Senator Obama and myself. It is time for both parties to come together to solve this problem.

..one more performance like Saddleback and this thing is over...
So ZERO thinks the debate is more important then the financial crises. Is it because he is afraid McCain will show him up at a meeting on the bailout. We all know he will.
Once again ZERO puts himself before Country!

Actually Obama can do both...he can go back to DC and let his teleprompter handle the debate.
IF Obama debates an empty chair and IF the teleprompter does not break, Obama might do a good job.
Can you vote “present” when you are absent?
No worries, the press will spin McCain’s action as a cynical stunt and Obama’s as a sign of leadership.
This is unreal.
John McCain’s afraid. Barry is a master debater. /humor
Exactly!
Putting the lust for power before the needs of the people!
This isn’t about YOU, Barry!
The O’Prompter is gonna look mightly silly telling America that McCain does’t care about them.
Obama is cramming for the debate. Remember those midterms..you crammed and crammed. If for some reason the test was delayed, you’d forget half of what you tried to memorize. He has to debate before all of what his handlers are cramming into his brain evaporates.
Don’t worry McCain. Just go to Washington. BHussein will vote “Present” anyway.
"OK, Senator. First question: Why are you so totally awesome?"
"That's an excellent question, sweetie, and I will answer it as honestly and truthfully as the people of this nation deserve. My awesomeness to due to your awesomeness - I am a reflection of the awesomeness that is to be found within all of you. I humbled and privileged to accept the burden of this awesomeness."
"Thank you. Thank you so much for that answer. Wow. I . . . um, second question: . . . "
Maybe Stuttering Barry can debate Joe Biden. They seem to have a lot of policy differences.
I’m lukewarm on this bailout, but to me this shows leadership on John McCain’s part, if Obama wants to say “He is ducking me and the debate” then someone (chuckle) should remind Barry that he backed out of those townhall meetings.
Good move on McCain’s part.
Considering that McCain hasn’t cast a Senate vote since August 8th, and considering how he apparently can’t multitask well enough to deal with the financial crisis and have a two-hour debate, I don’t see how this is putting Country First. You know, these thingies we call elections every four years have somewhat of an important place in this country too. It’s not a matter of “more important” - it’s a matter of being able to do both.
McCain puts county first... “tone deaf” Barry says he will debate Friday as he studies his cliff notes.
Correction (if you don’t mind): Not /humor, but /MSM
What’s Barry gonna do? Debate against his teleprompter? That teleprompter would kick his a$$ in a debate.
