McCain Suspends Campaign to Help With Bailout

John McCain announced that he will suspend his presidential campaign on Thursday to return to Washington to help with bailout negotiations. He urged his opponent Barack Obama to do the same.

The Arizona senator also asked the Presidential Debate Commission to postpone Friday’s scheduled debate with Obama so that he can work on the financial crisis bailout plan now on Capitol Hill.

“America this week faces an historic crisis in our financial system. We must pass legislation to address this crisis. If we do not, credit will dry up, with devastating consequences for our economy. People will no longer be able to buy homes and their life savings will be at stake. Businesses will not have enough money to pay their employees. If we do not act, ever corner of our country will be impacted. We cannot allow this to happen,” McCain said.

Obama is currently consulting his magic teleprompter for what he should say. If that fails he will use his magic eight ball.

"Obama will debate by himself...with teleprompter. "

Yeah...maybe McCain can deputize the FIRST DUDE to take his place.

I am sure Todd would run rings around 0bambi.

Geez... what a day Obamarama is having... First bill clintoon gives advice to his opponent’s husband, then McCain blind-sides him with the debate cancel thing.

FoxNews is reporting that President Bush has not released his reaction to McCain’s offer. My thinking is Bush is pissed as the longer this drags on the more the economy tanks. McCain is making it about himself. If he really wanted the problem solved he’d let the Senate hammer it out and not make them wait until he got there to “lead”. If they wait until Monday the market could tank another 1000 points.

I’m sorry, this reminds me of the gang of 14, “comprehensive” immigration reform, and campaign finance reform - all the reasons I hated McCain.

The Plug is about to be pulled.

Good Luck Freepers.

McCain comes back at him by renewing his offer to go to 10 townhall meetings and debates him there. When Obama refuses then place card board cutouts of Obama at the townhall meetings.

Yet another great idea, on top of sending Palin to be McCain's stand-in and showing that Obama doesn't want to help Congress solve the problem.

I have news for you, a lot of undecideds (When they start paying attention politically) get their news from the alphabet networks. Now that the MSM is blurring the issue saying “Obama called McCain campaign this morning...” it’s all down hill.

And what can Congress do anyways? Fix this thing in what, 4-5 days or how ever long this BS takes with a Dem controlled Congress. Damage is done, government will just make this worse by attempting to put a band-aid over a severed carotid artery while Repubs get the blame.

Yep. Before the day is out, Obama will have issued a statement that he is capable of dealing with two things at once, probably with the not-so-veiled suggestion that McCain can't because he's just too darn old. I think we've just seen the beginning of the end

Good One...reminds me of this one:

Obama and McCain accidentally end up in the Senate Barber shop together...You can sense the tension in the atmosphere, even the 2 barbers are afraid to start a conversation for fear that it will turn to politics. Finally Obama finishes first and his barber reaches for the Aftershave. Obama says no thanks, if I come home wearing that, my wife will think I've been to a ho' house. McCain's barber finishes and says how about you, "Aftershave?" McCain says no problem, my wife doesn't know what the inside of a ho' house smells like.

Reminds me of a football game where one team is about to score and the other team calls a time out to make them think about it.

"McCain Ices Obama"...I like it!

Not sure if Obama is onboard. He's campaigning in FL.

Someone just called the Schnitt show (radio) - said he & his son attended the Obama event with a McCain/Palin sign & the crowd ripped his sign up & tried to beat them up.

Shnitt is going to post whatever video the guy could get plus a picture of the torn sign.

There is NO debate with one person.

How sweet would it be if Obama thinks he's getting a free hour of TV with the pandering press; he's at one lectern. The other is empty. He starts to speak. The click-click-click of high heals is heard approaching the stage...

America has not faced a financial crisis of this magnitude since 1929. If the goverment does not act quickly it is possible that sector after sector of the US economy will fail. To have an economic crisis in the middle of the WOT can signal the beginning of the end for America’s influence in the world.

McCain is seizing the moment and putting America’s financial future before his campaign. He is the man that was willing to lose the election because he supported the surge. He is the candidate that is in touch with the concerns of the average American. He works for us. And his return to Washington shows that he puts us before winning the election.

This is a brilliant move not only for him as a US Senator, but as a patriot.

Usually, the no-show at a debate is the loser.

Not here.

Obama has been checkmated!

McCain is unconventional. He's taking on the Democrats' biggest issue - the economy and saying I'll fix it. No one expected him to do that and for a lot of swing voters who were thinking of moving to Obama, this is like an electric shock to their nervous system. McCain shows he is in touch with the mood of the country; Obama still refuses to comprehend we have a crisis! Suspending the campaign is brilliant political theater. Obama cannot put the country first because his campaign has been all about HIM.

Obama campaign believes debate should go on. No reason why they can’t do both. “The sky is falling”....plane ride only 2 1/2 hours away.....just heard on Fox.

Obama senior officials think the debate should go forward...
