NYT editor responds to McCain camp broadside

NY Times executive editor Bill Keller responded, in an e-mail to Politico, to Steve Schmidt's contention that the paper is pulling for Obama, and that "it is today not by any standard a journalistic organization."
"The New York Times is committed to covering the candidates fully, fairly and aggressively. It's our job to ask hard questions, fact-check their statements and their advertising, examine their programs, positions, biographies and advisors. Candidates and their campaign operatives are not always comfortable with that level of scrutiny, but it's what our readers expect and deserve."
I think that covers it accurately. In The Matrix, The One was a means our overlords used to control us and the mechanism for the near eradication of all free humans.

Bill Keller, the executive editor of the New York Times, sat on a couch in the Oval Office of the White House, three feet from President George W. Bush, and listened.
For a meeting without historical precedent, the president of the United States had called the Times to the White House to personally try to prevent a state secret from appearing in printan exposé of the National Security Agencys efforts to monitor phone calls without court-approved warrants that the Times had held back on for over a year. Times publisher Arthur Sulzberger Jr. sat in a wing chair facing Bush, while Keller and Washington bureau chief Philip Taubman sat across from Bushs lawyer, Harriet Miers, and national-security adviser Stephen Hadley. General Michael Hayden, the then-director of the National Security Agency, sat alongside Bush with a thick briefing book in his lap.
After stiff pleasantries, Bush issued an emphatic warning: If they revealed the secret program to the public and there was another terrorist attack on American soil, the Paper of Record would be implicated. The basic message, recalls Keller, was, Youll have blood on your hands.
The meeting lasted an hour. Afterward, Sulzberger and Keller stood outside the White House. Undaunted by the presidents logic and his threats, Keller told Sulzberger, Nothing I heard in there changed my mind. Sulzberger agreed.
Eleven days after the meeting with Bush, the Times defied the president; the story, by James Risen and Eric Lichtblau, was headlined bush lets u.s. spy on callers without courts. That same day, the USA Patriot Act was blocked in the Senate.

Meanwhile, the very business of selling newspapers is falling apart. The Web has gnawed away at the Times ad revenue, and as the cost of newsprint soars, the newspaper itself is literally shrinking.

Just thought of something: NY Slimes is pro-leftist for two reasons: cheap labor, and for the paper’s elites to hobnob with other effete snobs....
It gives lip service to working men and women while screwing them royally; it exults leftist politicians because that gets them connections to the other leftist politicians around the world who would otherwise ignore this fishwrap paper..so basically it gave up journalistic principal for the sake of political and economic expediency...But the NY Times has lost the way so much that is has landed in the gutter...So now instead of yellow journalism we have gutter journalism as shoveled out by your pretentious, rotten, foul smelling journalists..and we get: All the News that’s fit to wrap the fish in...
