Boehner says on Stephy with Dudd,
you cant describe on Sunday Morning tv just how ugly this situation would get if we don't act. I will take his word, he would not sell us out.

“That means republican leaders shouting about the democrat corruption in FM & FM from the rooftops.”
Ah but that takes some political spine! Possibly republican leaders may decide a more nuanced approach might make life a little easier for them going forward, no matter who wins the executive branch?

AIG was allowed to fail. Being force to sell your company (actually 79.9%) in exchange for an $85B 12% convertible preferred is failure. The reason it works for the fed is that they can force a cramdown of the debt. They got all the assets for a loan and can blow off the debt. It is a hell of a deal.

bottom line of course is that you should not lend money to people that stand a good chance of not repaying it words of wisdom had to be repeated.

Apparently, they also want to help their constituents in other countries, too (NObama being the citizen of the world that he is):

In a change from the original proposal sent to Capitol Hill, foreign-based banks with big U.S. operations could qualify for the Treasury Departments mortgage bailout, according to the fine print of an administration statement Saturday night.

Yep. Saving their existing constituents and manufacturing new ones. Power at all costs, even at the expense of the country. Ends justify the means. It’s hard to combat shamelessness.

Part of reason I have always thought is that apart from when running an election campaign he does not like the snipping back and forth, I think in the election campaign he sees it as good sport but day to day as us Brits would say it is not cricket to behave like that.
I think he takes and sees his role as head of State as above the day to day fray and probably hoped that his foot soldiers would do the engaging and battle for him and his administration but they have not.
A President has a unique role not just a political one but a State one as well and can anyone imagine the Queen of England getting involved in day to day politics of course not and I think that is part of the reason why it seems that GWB has not fought back.

Advice to Barry in debates:
Fred--Try to appear as C-in-C and appeal to military.
Mara--Crisp, strong and less professional--no ruminating (they are working on that).
Bill--Cite generals and Repubs, like Powell, agreeing with him.
Juan--Tie McCain to Bush's policy as a terrible mistake. (Darn, no Brit to slap Juan!)
Chris asks if it's just okay for Barry to hold his own:
Fred--It's not enough just to be reassuring.
Mara--Well, foreign policy has taken a back seat to the economy (she hopes).
Bill--McCain has to beat Barry.
Juan--Barry can't dump on McCain too hard or he comes off as an angry black guy.
Let's hope McCain mentions this...

Is Barack Obama trying to stall the success of the surge in Iraq?

I suspect some of the sleazier bundles will be found to have duplicate sales for the same mortgage promisory note.
@@@@@@
I agree with you. The resales of these notes has gotten so enormous that their tracks would look like a skein of yarn after a litter of kittens had played with it.
“Money managers” have been buying nothingness and putting it on their books as an asset. Talk about a bubble! It has to pop!
