ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The abuse-of-power investigation of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin was unraveling Wednesday, with most key witnesses refusing to testify, new legal maneuvering and heightened Republican pressure to delay the probe until after Election Day.

Palin initially welcomed the investigation, saying "hold me accountable," but she has increasingly opposed it since Republican presidential candidate John McCain tapped her as his vice presidential running mate.

Typical AP/0bama spin.

Palin originally supported the investigation but after it became obvious that the “investigation” was turning into a political smear job, Palin told the scumbag Democrats to go play in the street. Good for Sarah.

“but she has increasingly opposed it”

Maybe her turn changed once Gunny French basically said he said the reports conclusions would be bad for Palin...and this is before the subpoenas went out...but after he posed with the other “independent” investigators at Obama HQ.

Poor things. They were so looking forward to following this as thought it was the investigation of the century.

Nothing to do on Troopergate, nothing there for the MSM. More time on their hands now to investigate Obama for treason per the Logan Act. We’re waiting.

Looks like the NYT may have to look for something else to spring as an ‘October Surprise’ if this falls through. Hell, they may rehash it, and report it during the final week as if it were new just to see if it sticks. They may have breaking news on “Keating 5” on the Wednesday before the election instead.

It’s over. It was over when the Alaska Attorney General told French and his band of good old boys what they could do with their “subpoenas.”

Good. Now they can start the abuse of power investigation into State Senator French.

The MSM/Drivebys are so saddened, so deeply saddened!

Actually the headline is not as biased as some of the snide comments in the article, which is most unusual for AP. “Beginning to unravel” suggests that there’s no beef to be found.

Also, interesting that Palin appears to have an enemy in the legislature who is a Republican leader—I presume one of the regulars whom she has been giving grief to, maybe depriving her of her expected pork.

We knew there was no "there" there two weeks or so ago, courtesy of MataHarley at the Flopping Aces blog.

And if the MSM knew how to use the results of a simple Google search honestly, they'd have known it, too.

Sarah Palin opposes the 'investigation' that the Democrats want to do, because it wouldn't have to be done out in the open. Too much could go on behind the scenes, and the full story can be manipulated.

I'd read that she wants the investigation done by the Alaska State Personnel Board, because that body is required BY LAW to handle everything in public, so there can't be any back room deals and shenanigans. Sounds like SHE is the one who wants full disclosure.

The standard MO for the Drive By Media is to just let the story die. They’ll bury the death of TrooperGate behind some new “scandal” or economic woe.

I read somewhere several weeks ago that this whole thing was being prepared as ammo/distraction just in case Palin got the VP pick.

The NYT can always hire Dan Rather to dig up some dirt on Palin for their October Surprise. I'm sure Dan will be able to find some documents that prove Palin is really a witch who speaks in tongues.

IIUC, the public safety official serves at the pleasure of the Governor. She has the privilege of canning this chap for any reason she chooses. (And there is a history of misconduct, apparently.)

What I like about this is (1) the graphic illustration of the viciously partisan media activism against a Republican woman VEEP candidate; and,

(2) the strength and character that an unshaken Gov. Palin reveals, as she stares down the hysterical, torch and pitchfork wielding "news" media.

Troopergate is really Budget-gate.

Palin Releases Emails Connected to Moneghan Firing; McCain Camp Says They Prove He Was Fired for Insubordination, Failing to Advance the Agenda of His Superior (Gov. Palin)

Today, evidence was revealed that clearly demonstrates Governor Palin's decision to replace the Department of Public Safety (DPS) Commissioner Walter Monegan was based entirely on his repeated refusal to execute her administration's policy on fiscal and budget matters.
