McCain adviser Fiorina: Palin not ready to run a corporation
CNN ^ | September 16, 2008

Posted on 09/16/2008 8:39:43 PM PDT by Pinkbell

Carly Fiorina, the former Hewlett-Packard CEO turned top John McCain aide, said she doesn't think Sarah Palin is qualified to run a major corporation. For that matter, Fiorina said, McCain, Obama and Biden aren't capable of that kind of job either.

Ex-Hewlett-Packard CEO and McCain adviser Carly Fiorina said Sarah Palin could not run a major company.

The Republican presidential candidate has been trying to portray himself as someone who can fix the country's economic woes. But that is a far different task than running a Fortune 500 corporation, Fiorina told MSNBC Tuesday.

Democratic candidate Barack Obama's camp immediately circulated copies of her words -- which didn't exactly paint their candidate in a soft light, either.

"Well, I don't think John McCain could run a major corporation, I don't think Barack Obama could run a major corporation, I don't think Joe Biden could run a major corporation," Fiorina said.

"It is a fallacy to suggest that the country is like a company. So, of course, to run a business, you have to have a lifetime of experience in business, but that's not what Sarah Palin, John McCain, Joe Biden or Barack Obama are doing."

Fiorina was president of Hewlett-Packard until her high-profile ousting in 2006 after the company's unfavorable performance.

"If John McCain's top economic adviser doesn't think he can run a corporation, how on Earth can he run the largest economy in the world in the midst of a financial crisis?" said Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor. "Apparently, even the people who run his campaign agree that the economy is an issue John McCain doesn't understand as well as he should."

“Carly Fiorina would be an expert on how not to run a corporation — having driven two of them into the ground.”

And THAT is the TRUTH!

Here is the original question that began this idiotic back & forth:

Fiorina was asked about Palin by a host of the McGraw-Hill Show on St. Louis KTRS Radio:

Do you think she has the experience to run a major company, like Hewlett Packard?”

Please note: the question did not involve “a” company, but “a major company, like Hewlett Packard.”

I believe you can thank Michael Shear at the WaPo for the distortion. He made a conscious decision to make it sound as if Fiorina doubted Palin’s ability to manage the local dry cleaning co. as opposed to a multinational corporation with a Board of Driectors & millions of invested shareholders.

But leave it to CNN to broadcast it.

As a Governor, she does run a corporation - a public corporation with a budget of $11 billion and 15,000 employees.

Well, Fiorina's experience certainly makes her an expert at recognizing people who are unqualified to run a major corporation!

What's that old saw about "It takes a thief...." ?

After totally screwing over Lucent and HP, Carly needs to sit down and STFU!!

*BINGO* Agree 100 percent.

McCain needs to toss her ass out of his campaign. Carly is the
Peter Dilbert Principle personified.

Yep, specifically the incompetent Boss:

But you understated the extent of CNN’s sleaze. The comment was chopped right after “I don’t think John McCain could run a major corporation.” Fiorina’s comments about Obama and Biden not being qualified to run a corporation were also omitted.

Oops ... what can I say ... it's my birthday and I've been drinking and posting .... oh well ;) Thanks for the correction.

Just call me A+Bert with a brain :)

She was asked if she thinks Palin is qualified to run a company like Hewlett-Packard.

"No, I don't," Fiorina answered. "But that's not what she's running for. Running a corporation is a different set of things."

Good Lord! When you actually read what Fiorina says it makes sense. McCain & Palin are not running for the CEO position at H-P. The CNN headline is totally misleading....

McCain adviser Fiorina: Palin not ready to run a corporation

What, she's not ready to focus solely on short-term profits at the expense of long-term stability, personal golden parachutes worth hundreds of million in cash and stocks, and will never take responsibility when the whole house of cards comes crashing down...leaving the taxpayers with the bill?

What’s it called when a person in politics accidentally tells the truth???

And NBC did the same thing by leaving out how Fiorina dissed the libs as well.

The federal government is NOT a major company. You can get fired from a company is you are useless or incompetent but in D.C. you are literally protected by Federal law despite your incompetence or uselessness. It very little like a business which is why Carly Fiorina made the mistake of telling the truth on TV.

It's deeper than that. Carly is NOT competent. She was put in there when it was the rage to get a FEMALE in a top position. Her GENDER got her in - not major accomplishment. I distinctly remember that time frame.

At Dun and Bradstreet they did the same thing. I am not spelling her name right but I'll type in phonetically. Her name was Callahay or something like that. She was put in there just because she was FEMALE and screwed in all up. She too was forced to resign. It got to be a joke when they put a female in a position like that, that the company would suffer financially.

the sad truth is that most politicians AREN’T as well qualified as most senior executives—and I have no particular love for business executives, either.

I can’t believe I’m typing this, but I’d rather give Obama a shot at running a company than Fiorina. While I’m pretty certain Obama would be a disaster, I know for SURE that Fiorina would fail.

Why McCain has this proven loser as a spokesperson is beyond me.

Carly is saving money by having McCain's speeches written in China. Then she will fire the most knowledgeable campaign advisers and replace them with minimum wage interns.

She would know plenty about not being prepared to run a corporation. She was a horrible failure at HP before getting a lovely golden parachute to reward her for her poor performance on her way out the door.

Yea, but what did her golden parachute contain...twice?

Probably a few million

Usually when CEO’s leave for poor performance, they get a bag of cash.
