Do you think the recent stock market collapse or troubles in the banking system are good news?
Well, according to CNN's Candy Crowley, the Obama campaign does.
On Monday's "Anderson Cooper 360," after CNN senior political analyst David Gergen said "what happened over the weekend with the economy and the bottom falling out of the financial markets...is the opportunity for Obama to seize the momentum back on his side," Crowley actually said, "[J]ust as foreclosures were showing up on B-17, or in the real estate section, along comes this horrific headline out of Wall Street...I mean, this is what they wanted."
I kid you not. The transcript of this disgraceful exchange follows (video embedded right, h/t Steve Malzberg):

This isn’t only about Obama. It is about Liberals and Socialists in general. What Conservative did not know the economy was going to be in a “crisis” this election year?
There are myriad reasons for this economy and the Rats lust for power is one of them. Fuel prices, the ethanol boondoggle, the real estate bubble bursting and poor lending practices by lenders are the main players in this shrinking economy and the Socialists will cry, “The sky is falling”, and have done so, in order to intensify the effect.
If McCain is smart, this will not be a problem for him. If we have a problem, Barack Obama is not our solution. His solution for our economic woes is to provide 95% of Americans with a tax break. For those playing at home; 40% of Americans pay no taxes. So, what Obama is proposing here is Welfare and income redistribution.
Where liquidity is a problem and where the economy is experiencing a capital crunch; raising taxes on those earning $250,000 or more, not only is not a solution, but will have the economy in recession, approaching depression.
Obama’s other “solution”, you guessed it; more government largess. Those people who were given bad loans will be given help so they can continue to make payments on the mortgages they can’t afford. Oh yeah, that’ll work. Obama is a genius!
Lastly, McCain needs to make all of these points over and over and run against Congress, even though he is part of it. An eighth grade civics student should know: Congress controls the purse strings. And who has been in charge of Congress the past 2 years? What was the price of gas when Pelosi and Reid took charge? What was the condition of the economy? My advise to the American-hating Rats is: Be careful what you wish for, ya just might get it.
Well-known fact. They would welcome a nuclear strike on an American city if it meant getting their people in office. A party that would call the President Bushitler, because it has s**t and Hitler in it, can't be out for our best interests. When Bill was lying right to the camera, they said he deserved respect because of the office. It's all a one-way street.
The Democrats put Party before Country every time.
What is good news for America is bad news for the Democrats when a Republican administration is in power.
I’m waiting for Louis Freeh and Jamie Gorlick to go before Congress and explain themselves magically appearing in yet another scandal.
They said that impeachment of Bill Clinton would be bad for the stock market and that we must endure his administration for the sake of the nation.
The RNC needs to pound the link between the Clinton Democratic political appointments for Fannie and Freddie, their compensation and the fact that all of this was done with with huge PAC contributions pack to the Dems. They need to close with the question how Obama is going to fix it when he and his allies profit from and quote that these financial troubles help the Democrats.

They’re just upset that they didn’t get a good hurricane during the Pub convention.
