Ohio appears to have stabalized around a 3-5 point McCain lead. (Note: This is a democrat polling firm.)

It looks like the Messiah is going to have trouble holding all the states Kerry won, much less getting the ones he needs to put him over the top to be POTUS.

Looks a little strong in GOP representation (which of course I hope is accurate).

As long as McCain continues to win the independents he’s in good shape. I’m not sure the GOP has a 6% party ID advantage in Ohio.

We really just need to win Ohio, Virginia and Colorado.

Election night is going to be a barnburner.

Ohio may be the key swing state in this election. This is good news to hear. And if Ohio is tending towards McCain, maybe the same thing is happening in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Florida? If Obama is in trouble in all of these states, he will have trouble winning the election.

From the poll:

McCain and Obama had been tied in last month’s Ohio poll. White voters who had been undecided are breaking strongly for McCain. Where he had an 11 point lead with them last month, it is now 18. The Republican nominee has also greatly improved his standing among independent voters. He has an eight point lead with them now after Obama had a 17 point advantage with them in the August poll.

“There is a troubling trend for Barack Obama of undecided white voters in many of the swing states moving into John McCain’s camp,” said Dean Debnam, President of Public Policy Polling. “He’s going to be in trouble if he can’t get that turning back in the other direction.”

One factor that may be helping McCain to move up in the polls is his selection of Sarah Palin as his running mate. 43% of those surveyed said her presence on ticket made them more likely to vote McCain, while just 30% said the same about Obama’s choice of Joe Biden.

There’s a significant gender gap in the state’s results right now, with Obama leading by five points among women but trailing by 16 with men. Obama has an advantage with voters under 30, but John McCain leads each of the other age categories.

PPP will have new numbers for Virginia tomorrow.

Duh. I can’t read. Great news, especially with the +6% Dem advantage.

A good result, especially considering that a 6% Dem/Rep gap is likely a bit high for Ohio.

I think OH can be moved to the “nearly safe” column for McCain. I’m only concerned now about two states, CO (where McCain finally got a lead) and VA (which is tied in the most recent poll).

That’s not enough of a lead when Dems vote twice.

The money statement from the head of PPP.

“There is a troubling trend for Barack Obama of white and independent voters moving into McCain’s camp in many of the swing states, He’s going to be in trouble if he cannot turn that in the other direction”

No shit sherlock.

This does seem different from 2006 when no repub led in any poll statewide that I remember.

Looks a little strong in GOP representation (which of course I hope is accurate).

It may be a little weak. More and more people are now identifying themselves as Republicans. Polling organizations will slowly adjust their assumptions up and this trend is confirmed. Right now I really think all pollsters are still underestimating the GOP voters based on old info.

Yeah, McCain doesn’t feel like a Republican to most “indies.” (cause he sometimes isn’t). And Palin has excited people in a way that Ken Blackwell and Mike DeWine absolutely could not.
