Hmmm. Maybe . . . I am not a feminist after all.
Maybe . . . working in a man's world for 42 years and busting my butt to beat them up the ladder deletes me from the feminist category.
Perhaps . . . struggling to be a good single mom in a very married world -- yet meeting my five-day-a-week column deadline -- doesn't earn me a feminist handle either.
Certainly . . . because I'm not appalled or sickened or shocked by Sarah Palin's stealing the thunder from Obama the orator, I am not a feminist.
Give me a break.
I'm tired of women working hard for a hammer that never breaks the glass ceiling; disgusted when Hillary Clinton, an incredibly capable, brilliant woman, lost the fight of her life; disheartened by other countries throughout the free world being led by formidable women before America is.
Only this time, it was an amazing orator named Barack Obama who was stealing our thunder . . . and I was . . . well, you know. Pissed.
And then along came Palin, a woman of the tundra who could be America's next best frontier story -- and I was pleasantly surprised.
Hell, I was delighted.
So what if she's a Republican? I tend to vote for Republican presidents.
So what if she didn't know the definition of the Bush Doctrine? Her performance was a Western draw. Bravery in tact. But no one shot.
So I asked myself -- what fault is there in admiring a woman who is against abortion -- even though I believe in freedom of choice?
What's wrong with huge respect for a woman who chose to give birth to a Down syndrome child knowing full well what was in store for her and her family?

Is it just me? I think Palin immediately recognized the "Bush Doctrine" question for exactly what it was - a trap? (Pretty quick of her). At that point, Charlie was reeking smugness and superiority! She knew the doctrine is defined in many ways, so whichever definition she went with, it would be construed as ignorance. All she did was ask him (twice, by the way) to define his question.
check it out on Wikipedia: The Bush Doctrine is a phrase used to describe various related foreign policy principles of United States president George W. Bush, created in the wake of the September 11, 2001 attacks. The phrase initially described the policy that the United States had the right to treat countries that harbor or give aid to terrorist groups as terrorists themselves, which was used to justify the invasion of Afghanistan.[1] Later it came to include additional elements, including the controversial policy of preventive war, which held that the United States should depose foreign regimes that represented a threat to the security of the United States, even if that threat was not immediate (used to justify the invasion of Iraq), a policy of supporting democracy around the world, especially in the Middle East, as a strategy for combating the spread of terrorism, and a willingness to pursue U.S. military interests in a unilateral way.[2][3][4]
Tundra Woman.
I like it.
I hope it catches on.
"Hillary Clinton, an incredibly capable, brilliant woman, lost the fight of her life"
Hillary is pretty smart...we are very lucky that we’re not facing her
If Sen Clinton had won the nomination, Sarah Palin would not have had the same effect on this election as she is currently having.
Remember, Sen Clinton can still run in 2012 for the top spot, not second fiddle like Sarah Palin. Therefore, there is one more glass ceiling to break (or so Hillary and the MSM will say).
Of course, Sen Clinton may have to face VP Palin.....(I hope)
It ain’t over yet!
I read on FR that Wikipedia “sanitized” the Bush Doctrine the day after the interview.
Is that a PUMA, or a cougar, or Inspector Clousseau’s nemesis?
Feminism is communism that worships at the alter of abortion.
Pray for W, McCuda and Our Troops
While I agree with essentially everything you posted, my understanding is that Hilary was indeed the selection of those feminists, but was shunted aside with vigor for the 0bama pick as a matter of party enforcement. Roger Hedgecock broadcast the story of two gals, longtime Dem activists, who bought an RV and drove cross-country to attend the Dem conv. in Denver. Once there, they were told in no uncertain terms by party operatives their vote would go to 0bama or their delegate career would be over. They were heartbroken, blew out of the convention, drove to St. Paul, and switched their affiliation to Rep. It is that disappointment, that hatred, that sense of betrayal that is now focused against the GOP. Oh well, logic never was their strong point.
Hillary Clinton is in fact an incredibly capable, brilliant woman. She is also unethical, dishonest, and vindictive.
My tagline says it all.
Our huge land once had the call of the frontier for a new start -- and Alaska became the last of it.
Palin's kind of grit and savvy is akin to a frontier story: a young woman who was raised in a land of big sky and the midnight sun, a metaphor of sorts for being able to spot trouble a long way away.
Ping.
I’ve actually never seen the Walton’s...
I grew up in a small town with only one TV channel and that wasn’t on it.
A commentary of courage - this woman will get more than her share of not just dirty looks from her peers but probable social ostracism.
But will also receive a lot of admiration from her readers - and actually from some of her peers.
I thought about being a feminist once but it just wasn’t worth being that unattractive. ; )
btt
I know 2 women (true ladies) named Michael. One spells it Michal and the other spells it Michael.
In the 19th century men were named Shelley, Shirley, Leslie, etc.
