Website: Croatia Has Sold S300 To Iran
The Jerusalem Post ^ | September 10, 2008 | By Yaakov Katz

Croatia has recently sold advanced S-300 air defense missile systems to Iran, a newspaper in Zagreb reported this week amid conflicting opinions in Israel over whether Teheran has obtained the advanced anti-aircraft system.

According to the Web magazine Necenzurirano, Libyan Naval ships were also docking in the Croatian port city of Kraljevica to transfer the system to Iran.

Israeli defense officials could not confirm the report but said that Croatia is known to have obtained a number of S-300 systems following the collapse of the Soviet Union. The system was reportedly dismantled several years ago although its exact fate was never publicized.

The S-300, a Russian system, is one of the most advanced multi-target anti-aircraft missile systems in the world today and has a reported ability to track up to 100 targets simultaneously while engaging up to 12 at the same time. It has a range of about 200 kilometers and can hit targets at altitudes of 27,000 meters.

It is not likely Croatia would have done this. They are pursuing Nato membership. It is more likely some other nation sold this system to Iran and wants to divert the attention of the West.

This is a violation of the treaty on advanced weapons proliferation by Russia. The UN should put strong economic sanctions on Russia immediately and America should have a military response. I would suggest a ramping up on offensive weapons systems R&D for the United States, both to punish Russia's violation and to bolster our defenses as we will need it.

Immediately the US should supply Israel with the refueling tanker and bunkerbuster bombs as requested and refused last week. Why should we hold back on supporting our friends when Russia is expanding support to our enemies against hard treatise?

How could it be that twenty year old russian surplus could be described as one of the most advanced systems in the world today?

I believe there are several versions of that system.

It is a very nasty radar SAM system and highly capable, not easy to defeat. It is the predecessor to the newest S-400 which has an even longer range. How old do you think the Patriot System is?

During the Balkan wars Croatia was the most corrupt country in the Peninsula. It allowed its territory to be used to supply the mujahideen, and Croatian officals from top to bottom were on the take. If you go back to the post-Tito period you will find that the fascist (and it goes without saying, anti-Semitic) Croats who had found a home in southern South America made a beeline for home. Many were soon placed in high government positions. It is my hope that NATO has nothing to do with Croatia.

Nato has already accepted them. It will be official within the year.

This article is not accurate.

BS. One of the few redeeming characteristics of the Tudjman regime was that it wasn't as bad as the Milosevic regime - no other government was in such a close symbiotic relationship with their local mafia, and the Milosevic regime was just as happy to victimize Serbs as non-Serbs, as shown by the Jugoskandik and Dafiment Bank scandals.

Iran was actually the the 7th country to recognize Croatia's indepenedence, and Croatia got real cozy with Iran when Croatia was transporting arms for Iran to the Bosnian Muslims. They have stayed pretty tight ever since.

Iran to Export Gas to Europe Via Croatia

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's ambassador to Croatia said that his country's natural gas will be transferred to the European Union via Croatian borders.

"Iran offered a proposition to Croatia for transferring its gas to Europe," Mohammad Hassan Fada'i added according to Press TV.

According to this proposition, a gas terminal will be established and Iran's gas pipeline will be extended to Switzerland and Austria through Croatian borders.

"According to a signed contract, Iran will export more than 25bln dollars worth of natural gas to Austria," he said, adding that Iran will also export more than 30bln dollars worth of gas to Switzerland, based on another contract which will be signed in the near future.

The envoy also mentioned that Iran and Croatia would also exchange experience in areas of tourism, shipping, and fishing.

Croatia’s NATO membership will benefit Iran

TEHRAN, Sept. 3 (MNA) -– Croatia’s President Stjepan Mesic said on Wednesday his country’s decision to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization will not jeopardize its relations with the Islamic Republic.

“In my opinion, Croatia’s membership in NATO or the European Union will not have any negative effect on Tehran-Zagreb relations,” Mesic said in a meeting with a group of Iranian journalists.

On the contrary, Iran will have the opportunity to develop closer relations with the EU through Croatia, he opined.

“Our decision to join NATO is due to some problems we have with some of our neighbors. For example a Serb party imagines that half of Croatia and Bosnia are part of Serbia’s territory. This shows that some groups have not yet given up their desire to extend territory.”

Mesic also said he plans to visit Iran in the near future.

...while the other 88 blow it to Hell, and the 100 it missed strike their intended targets. ;') What was the system the Syrians used to "prevent" the Israelis from destroying that nuclear weapons facility?

You do realize that was under American instruction? I should know, considering I was involved.

Aside from Slovenia there isn’t a Balkan state worth spit. (As a Croatian, I am sure you will find that despicable.)
