WAR MOM PALIN TAKES HARD LINE

By CHARLES HURT Bureau Chief

September 12, 2008 -- WASHINGTON - Vice-presidential hopeful Sarah Palin saw her eldest son off to war yesterday as she took a hard line on Russia, Iran and terrorists "hellbent on destroying America and our allies."

Asked in her first extended interview since becoming John McCain's running mate if she thinks she's qualified to take over the presidency, Palin replied, "I do."

"I have the confidence in that readiness and knowing that you can't blink," she told ABC News. "You have to be wired in a way of being so committed to the mission that we're on - reform of this country and victory in the war."

In the interview, conducted in Alaska by Charles Gibson, Palin also offered tough words for Russia and any other foreign aggressors.

Asked if the United States should go to war to protect Georgia or Ukraine if those former Soviet republics are admitted to NATO, she replied, "Perhaps so. I mean, that's the agreement when you are a NATO ally.

Gov. Sarah Palin flashes a thumbs-up yesterday as she's escorted by an Army colonel at Fort Wainwright, Alaska, where her son was deployed to the war in Iraq.

First thing, Sarah Palin has the incredible ability to make people smile, look at any picture of her around a crowd, and there will be smiles abounding.

The Col. at Ft Wainwright is doing his best to stifle that smile...and sort of failing at it, Gov Palin is just one of those people who can light up a room or a crowd.

Secondly, this to me is a slap in the face of the Leftist “defeat o crats”

Gov Palin’s “don’t blink” in the face of the chorus on the Left in the Senate and Congress is the same as Lady Thatcher’s “Don’t go wobbly on me”....

He[r] son Track, 19, joined the Army last summer and is part of the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division based at Fort Wainwright near Fairbanks.

As Sarah is a parent of someone who wears the uniform during time of war, there is a great and pride-filled term for the Governor of Alaska.

John McCain, with three sons in active duty uniform shares this great term, with so many of us.

Sarah Palin and John McCain are Blue Star Parents. The Obamas and Bidens of the nation can't know the concerns and they can't know or share the pride.

Interesting info regarding Governors who became presidents.

And not very many people can answer these questions (especially democrats):

President Lincoln was a successful lawyer before entering politics.

Where did Lincoln attend high school?
Where did he attend college?
What degrees did he hold?

Lincoln never held a college degree because he never attended college or high school.
His formal education consisted of about 1 1/2 years in a one room grade school.
He became a licensed lawyer through self-education using borrowed books.

I always wondered why my parents put that their blue star flag in the front window when I was on active duty. I never thought my service was that big of a deal. Since I got out of the Air Force, my pride in and of the people that serve our country has changed greatly. So many people in the military are amazingly humble, I did not notice this while I was in. Thanks to your child and to your for your support of him/her and his/her peers.

That list has problems, but some reflect very well on Palin.
TR and Calvin Coolidge were both first term governors elected as vice presidents, assuming office upon the deaths of the president.
Woodrow Wilson was a single term governor of New Jesey who has less political experience than Palin, before being elected president. Of course TR elected him, as he only got 42% of the vote.
Thomas Jefferson
He had also been Secretary of State and Vice President.
Martin Van Buren was a Senator and Vice President. He was Governor of NY for a month before becoming Secretary of State.
Theodore Roosevelt He was Assistant Secretary of the Navy (best known for ordering the capture of the Philippines before we declared war)and Vice President. Actually, he was Governor of NY for only 1 year (1899-1900) before becoming Vice President. TR is a great comeback!

Franklin Delano Roosevelt was Assistant Secretary of the Navy from 1913-1920, service under Wilson. (This was a political move. Coolidge made TR Jr. Assistant Secretary of the Navy in 1924!) FDR was governor of NY for 3 years before becoming president.
James Polk was governor for only 2 years. However, before that he was a congressman and Speaker of the House!
Rutherford B Hayes was a congressman and general before being governor.
William McKinley was a congressman before service 3 years as governor.

Woodrow Wilson was governor for 2 years before becoming president. Before that he was President of Princeton University. (Pointy headed progressive racist)

Calvin Coolidge was Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts for 3 years before serving 2 years as governor. Of course Coolidge, like TR became president after the death of the preceding Republican president.

Pretty sure Biden’s son is in the military. Don’t like Biden but got to give credit where due.

Instead of asking Obama if he knows what the Bush Doctrine is, someone should ask him if he knows what a Blue Star Parent is.

How about somebody asking him whe he didn’t enlist after 9/11 when he was only 39 years old. Hell, me and my brother tried to reup and we were both over 50. We were turned down but we get B for effort.

You are correct.

From Wiki...SloJo's... elder son, Beau, had been a partner in a Wilmington law firm until he was elected Delaware Attorney General in 2006. He is a captain in the Delaware Army National Guard, where he serves in the Judge Advocate General's Corps, and is set to be deployed to Iraq in October 2008.

I respect Reserve and National Guard duty as active duty; and, thus recognize Biden's Blue Star parent status.

I hate to be finicky, but sorry, it's my nature.
Your list is out of sequence. Mind if I correct it?

Governors before President

Thomas Jefferson - Virginia
James Monroe - Virginia
Martin Van Buren - New York
James Polk - Tennessee
Andrew Johnson - Tennessee
Rutherford B Hayes - Ohio
Grover Cleveland - New York
William McKinley - Ohio
Theodore Roosevelt - New York
Woodrow Wilson - New Jersey
Calvin Coolidge - Massachusetts
Franklin Delano Roosevelt - New York
James Earl Carter - Georgia
Ronald Wilson Reagan - California
William Jefferson Clinton - Arkansas
George Walker Bush - Texas

Now, doesn't that look better? ;-)

Why thank you, I would never have guessed myself. You mean that military dude is really Mrs. Palin? LOL

It may be her, but her face looks different (chubbier). Doesn’t look like her hair and glasses either, but the outfit is great!
