Candidates Call End to Truce With Attack Ads

by FOXNews.com

Friday, September 12, 2008

Barack Obama’s campaign, declaring “today is the first day of the rest of the campaign,” unleashed a new ad mocking John McCain as computer illiterate Friday in a fresh attempt to shake his rival’s sudden lead in the polls.

The ad, coupled with one from the McCain campaign accusing Obama of being “disrespectful” toward his running mate, effectively ended the one-day truce on Sept. 11 and signaled the candidates would spend the next 53 days on the offensive.

The Obama ad blatantly mocks his 72-year-old rival as being confused by modern technology.

“Things have changed in the last 26 years. But McCain hasn’t. He admits he still doesn’t know how to use a computer, can’t send an e-mail,” the narrator says. “After one president who was out of touch, we just can’t afford more of the same.”

The ad includes unflattering footage of McCain at a hearing in the early ’80s, wearing giant glasses and an out-of-style suit, interspersed with shots of a disco ball, a clunky phone, an outdated computer and a Rubix Cube.

Yep. Email is important when you are trying to thwart another terrorist attack on NYC. Putz.

I'm waiting for the ad showing Obama with an afro, some cocaine, and a dashiki.

What? What? Would that be crossing the line? How come the Democrats can get away with anything? They never have to worry about crossing the line.

Barack Obama’s campaign, declaring “today is the first day of the rest of the campaign,”

People who use 1960's cliches shouldn't lecture other people about living through the 1980's.

This should motivate Obama’s base and piss off a bunch of 72 year olds and others who don’t give a rats arse about Email.

Not what could be called a major issue. LOL

Bush has not used email since he has been in office — not because he is a ‘retarded cowboy’, as the libtards think, but because he chose not to while president.

If McCain DID use email, Barry's friends would subpoena every single one that he ever wrote and an army of sleazebags would pour over every single word looking for something to whack him over the head with.

Way to get back to the issues that matter, Barry.

On Fox News: Holt to Bob Bechtel: "We're not voting for a tech support guy; we're voting for someone to become the Commander in Chief of the United States" That's going to leave a mark.

Don’t know what barry thinks he is going to accomplish with this, he has won the internet generation already..

“Things have changed in the last 26 years. But McCain hasn’t. He admits he still doesn’t know how to use a computer, can’t send an e-mail,” the narrator says. “After one president who was out of touch, we just can’t afford more of the same.”

Many, many people over the age of 50 don’t know how to send email or use a computer.... Are you calling those votes out of touch because they are not technically savvy enough for you..

A good counter punch here would be hitting him as a liberal elite with his own words... Many have an Older American, or even a younger one who does not care for computers ask barry if they are out of touch..

There was a truce concerning attack ads in this campaign?

Who knew?

Barack Hussein Obama, Jr., the charismatic, messianic Magic Negro, has been on the attack for the last 19 months, and until now, not much was ever marshalled to counter those attack ads, even from Herself, the Cold and Joyless.

And if ever there were someone who could work the opposition research angle, there stands the prime example in Herself.

The focus is now shifted to Sarah Palin (?) attacking the CONSERVATIVE point of view, without ever providing a positive reason to support the LIBERAL point of view.

My first thought, too. “E-mail illiterate? That’s all you got?” That’s a strike? That’s a new tactic?

Why not just run out and key his car, you bozos?

And, on a serious note, I hope they splash that ad everywhere. Older people, those who love their country and get out to vote in droves, don’t e-mail so much, either. And they sure as heck don’t want to be told they’re illiterates because of it.

I keep seeing an image of the O braintrust sitting around in a circle jerk fashion, rehearsing O on memorizing the words from the Toles cartoon and working in all the clever retorts to McCain’s change theme:

“What about this: ‘I called first-dibs on change.’”

“No, how about: ‘Change my Depends’?”

“Nope, America isn’t ready for a dukey campaign slogan yet.”

“Oh, I got it, ‘Has McCain got amnesia? He never got out of the cockadoody car.’”

“That’s been done.”

“What’s that to us?”

“No, we’re going with the lipstick-pig-geriatric-stinking-barracuda thing.”

“But what about cockadoody? Oo-oo-oo, I got it, cockadoody e-mails. He doesn’t know how to write a cockadoody e-mail.”

“We’ll do that tomorrow.”

That ad was terrible.

Bad announcer, and really didnt say anything meaningful.

And I suppose showing McCain in 1982 was supposed to make him look bad?

Note to Obi: EVERYONE in 1982 looked like that!

Obama probably thinks that he will be awakened at 3 a.m. some day to sit down at a Star Wars type console where he will personally control the American side of a big video game that will decide the future of civilization.

More to the point, a president who personally sends e-mails is risking serious trouble. Obama, and even more so, Biden, have been prone to serious gaffes when speaking inpromptu. What the president says needs to be carefully framed so as to be unambiguous, on task and on target. E-mails don’t go away, and e-mails aren’t privileged communication. In addition, e-mails are extremely insecure.

A president who expects to rely on e-mail is a dolt.Any one with any executive experience would know that.

Well, you see, because Obama does use e-mail, he's got the healthcare crisis solved. He's found a reputable supplier of discount medications, yourtotallylegitimatehonestnojokesupplierofviagraandcialis.com ! They even offer a 50% discount if you do a direct bank account transfer for your first order! Such nice people. I hear Obama found some good campain aides too, some email about "Meet Single Ladies NOW". He's go the motgage crisis solved, too, he had a "Re-Fi at 1% FIXED !!!!!!" mail in his inbox. Good thing he didn't delete that one...

I haven't seen the ad, but like most here have commented, I can really see this backfiring. MILLIONS of Americans are "computer illiterate". If that term is used in the ad, it's even worse, as nobody likes to be called illiterate. And if you're calling McCain illiterate because he doesn't do email, then you are calling everyone that doesn't do email illiterate. I would like to see the ad, but I can't see it how it's a net gain of voters for Obama, and isn't that the idea?

I predict that McCain may run a counter ad pointing out that Obama is calling everyone who doesn't use a computer, "illiterate". Even if he doesn't, I predict that the Obama campaign will end up being on the defensive (AGAIN) with this ad, apologizing (wait, they never apologize), having to explain that they weren't calling anyone illiterate, blah, blah, blah.

This is the first day of the rest of the campaign? LOL

It looks like Obama is determined to continue shooting himself in the foot right up until election day. Funny for a guy who's a gun grabber. Now, the democrats generic lead is almost completely gone. They have to be freaking out. The more pressure they are feeling, the more likely they are to continue doing stupid stuff.

Guys, it’s an incredibly daring strategy...

First, piss off the women (especially the feminists) with crazy attacks on the wildly popular Sarah Palin. Check.

Now, piss off the AARP and that lot by implying that old fogey, McCain is a moron because he doesn’t use email. Check.

I predict his next move will be designed to drive off either black people or muslims.
