FOX/Rasmussen Swing State Polling (OH, VA, FL, CO, PA)
Fox News/Rasmussen Reports ^ | 9/8/08 | Scott Rasmussen

Posted on 09/08/2008 3:22:53 PM PDT by Norman Bates

Rasmussen Reports conducted five state telephone surveys in partnership with Fox News Channel on September 7, 2008. The surveys were conducted in Colorado, Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. A total of 500 Likely Voters were interviewed in each state using the Rasmussen Reports automated telephone survey methodology (see www.RasmussenReports.com for details).

The margin of sampling error for the full sample in each state poll is +/- 4.5 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Caution should be used in interpreting subsets of the data as such results will have an even larger margin of sampling error. It is anticipated that larger sample sizes will be used later in the election season which will allow for a more detailed examination of demographic distinctions.

(snip)

Additionally, there were state specific timing issues in three of the five states. In Colorado, the city of Denver hosted the Democratic National Convention Colorado less than two weeks before the survey was conducted. In Florida, the survey was conducted as Hurricane Ike was approaching. In Virginia, the survey was conducted the day after Tropical Storm Hanna raced through the state.

It is not clear what, if any, impact these state-specific timing issues may have on the data.

I think Gallup is pulling our leg.

Good point about church goers being polled on a Sunday. It could be enough to change the numbers by a couple of points.

I would imagine that there’s going to be great voter fraud in places like Philly, Cleveland, Cinn., Gary, IN, St. Louis, MO and a few other places.

I believe it’s going to be like we’ve never seen before and no one will contest it. Obama’s ACORN thugs will be in full force.

It was said earlier that the state polling would lag behind the national polls.
If someone is ahead 10 points in a national poll of likely voters, noway can they be behind in the electoral college.

The most recent state polls in Florida are Mason Dixon, which had Obama up by one, and this, which is a tie. The polls with McCain up are older than that.

I would have expected McCain to be up fairly substantially in FL, especially since this polling was last night during his convention bump. Either Biden changed the game in Florida or...something. Supposedly Biden’s really popular with the old folks here, for reasons which escape me.

Please. lol
McCain got a convention bounce, and it hasn’t been reflected in state polls yet.

No way is this correct.

Christ needs to get people sorted, and Joe needs to be living here in the south part of the state

Rasmussen norms for party affiliation, so if he doesn’t have enough Pubbies in his sample, he keeps dialing until he does.

Florida, where I live, is full of older folks who don’t answer the phone if they aren’t expecting a call. Why? Because we are plagued with pollsters, telephonic beggars (who claim that they are collecting for charities), and idiotic Hispanic immigrants who cannot figure out how to dial a telephone number.

In addition, the geezers are out and about, basically being retirees and screwing off. Many, perhaps most, of them don’t want to talk with some @$$hole who uses their own telephone to pester and annoy them.

FL telephone polls aren’t worth the powder to blow them to hell.

Tied in Florida is actually great news for the McCain campaign this far out.

Prior to the Palin pick, Fl was leaning, heavily, towards blue. McCain has made up significant ground if he's now tied.

Once he sends out supporters into S. Florida and starts holding events down here, his support will only grow.

Virginia and Ohio give one cause to be optimistic. Unless I underestimated the demographic shift in FL and CO, these numbers don’t add up. Generally, if Ohio is tied we’re up by 3 in Florida and five in Colorado.

“Guys lets not forget these polls were taken on the morning of Sept 7th, its does not fully include any bounce McCain may get from a convention.”

Like virtually all pollsters, Rasmussen polls in the evening.

Palin could hurt some in Florida with all the ‘she supported Buchanan’ smear.

"A total of 500 Likely Voters were interviewed in each state using the Rasmussen Reports automated telephone survey methodology"

I'm not sure how accurate the Rasmussen automated telephone survey methodology is going to be in this cycle. We will see.

Other than Ohio, it appears that the national polls are correlating to the polls in the background states. A bit of a damper given the recent poll trends.

It doesn’t make sense, and Rasmussen just brings me down in general.

I think I’ll just look at polls next month in October and then worry about it.

Rasmussen:

“While Obama is ahead, McCain is viewed more positively. Sixty-one percent (61%) of Colorado voters have a favorable opinion of the Republican while 54% say the same about the Democratic hopeful.”

FLORIDA:

The Republican nominee is viewed favorably by 61% of Floridian voters and unfavorably by 37%. Obama’s numbers are 55% favorable, 45% unfavorable. As for the Vice Presidential nominees, the ratings are similar. Sarah Palin is viewed favorably by 54% and unfavorably by 42%. Biden receives favorable ratings from 51% and unfavorable ratings from 43%.

It's difficult to imagine us losing FL with those internals, but IIRC Obama has boosted his favs since last poll. FWIW...

I’m in FL also (Volusia County). The “Bright House” cable channel 13 (out of Orlando) has been showing a poll all afternoon with Crist’s approval rating @ 61 percent!!

IMHO, I really think the “tie” might be a bit of a stretch.

Also, they have been re-running Hillary clips from her FL visit today.

Man....If I was going to pick a song to describe her “energy” and her “compassion” for the “Obamassiah” and “Plugs The Babysitter” ticket in the clips I have seen ALL AFTERNOON, there would be only one song to totally sum it up:

“I Wanna Be Sedated” by The Ramones.
