NYT Working-Mom Columnist Throws Palin Under the Pram
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

If any pundit should celebrate Sarah Palin, you might think it would be Judith Warner. The author of "Motherhood in the Age of Anxiety" is the Times' resident expert on the challenges women face in balancing career and family. But think again. Politics trumps female solidarity. Warner's column on Palin is perhaps the most vitriolic and condescending I've read. The Mirrored Ceiling is a few days old, but Warner's fury still rings fresh.

Excerpts [emphasis added]:

* It turns out there was something more nauseating than the nomination of Sarah Palin as John McCain’s running mate this past week. It was the tone of the acclaim that followed her acceptance speech. * Palin sounded, at times, like she was speaking a foreign language as she gave voice to the beautifully crafted words that had been prepared for her . . . But that wasn’t held against her. Thanks to the level of general esteem that greeted her ascent to the podium, it seems we’ve all got to celebrate the fact that America’s Hottest Governor (Princess of the Fur Rendezvous 1983, Miss Wasilla 1984) could speak at all.

It just hit me, they are not afraid of her so much as they are afraid of what Trig’s presence represents. (As well as Bristol's unborn baby.)

Well, you have to remember that it was the New York Times that celebrated the murder of two babies by a mother who wanted to be spared the indignity of shopping at Costco for big jars of mayonnaise.

...I don’t get the “dropping their g’s”. I’m assuming they’re making fun of us southerners?

For the author of this column, Hillary is the only woman who deserves a place in the White House, not an independent, successful, capable woman such as Gov. Palin. Their contestant (to borrow the author’s reference to beauty contests) didn’t even make runner up. I suggest they focus their disappointment where it belongs - at the DNC.

Hey there, NYT "resident motherhood expert" - at what ages are you planning to tell your kids about the brothers and sisters they never knew they had, who ended up in dumpsters behind abortion clinics? Did any of those babies have Downs? Were any of them "accidents" that were going to arrive on a date that would conflict with vacation plans? Maybe one of them was one of a set of twins, and that wasn't in the plans, so you told the doctor to go eeny-meeny and cut one of them out now?

Nahhh.... you probably aren't going to tell your kids anything, ever.

But I do really wonder what tormenting moments of shame residing in your dark, dark soul have caused you to lash out so nastily at a heroic woman like Sarah?

“Look lady we are sorry that you are not getting any lately but that is not our fault of Mrs Palin,s”

I think conservatives should show more class than liberals. It’s very easy to do. Judith Warner’s sex life is none of our business, and what she writes is more than sufficient to discredit her.

You’re right about the abortion angle to all of this. One of the female columnists for the Cleveland Plain Dealer was literally fuming that Palin had been chosen as VP because she thought it was wrong that Palin’s daughter had been denied the “legal option” of aborting her baby. The thought that this girl might have freely decided on her own to keep the child and get married never occurred to this strident feminist. Apparently, the right to choose does not include the right to choose to keep the baby.

This just might be a rare example of the NYT loading the lyrics into the Karaoke Media Machine where no one else will sing the song. I’m not sure if this will show up elsewhere, unless it is a slow news day and a lazy editor pushes it.

This is one of the big guns the NYTs is pulling out to try and counter Palin? Pffft! What a dud.

It is obvious from their vitriol and from the (dare I say) "shrill" nature of their attacks that Sarah Palin is shaking the Democratic/MSM leftist-liberal house to its foundation, and bringing it down.

She and her family, their faith, their values, and their story represent the absolute refutation of all the tired old liberal mantras and victimology that they malignantly use to mentally, pshycologically, and financially enslave whole classes of people.

From women's rights, to family values, to gun rights, to abortion, to energy policy, to taxation, to envrionmentalism, and on and on...she is a wrecking ball to the leftist, liberal, socialist house.

I’ll bet it secretly makes them hysterically jealous that their feminist superhero Hillary only got where she was by riding her hubby’s coattails to political power, whereas Sarah climbed the political ladder on her own.

“I am shocked that this amazingly unattractive and bitter liberal woman doesn’t like Gov. Palin.”

I think we should bashing liberal women over their looks. Their words and deeds are fair game.

I agree with you. Anytime we let our anger get the best of us and start lashing out with personal comments, we are no better than those who are going after Gov. Palin with personal attacks. Let’s respond to the statements, not the person.

This Femo-Nazi has the nerve to claim that Sarah Palin isn't genuine? One can agree, or disagree with Palin's views on subjects. But anyone who observes her and does not realize that the Governor is genuine, is too unobservant to be working as a "reporter" on a supermarket throw-away paper.

Of course, the problem is not that this woman lacks powers of observation. It is that she is such a political bigot that she cannot allow obvious facts to interfere with her pre-set conclusions.

Real people, the kind of people who will like and identify with Palin, they clearly believe, are smart, but not too smart, and don’t talk too well, dropping their “g”s, for example, and putting tough concepts like “vice president” in quotation marks. ~ Judith Warner, The Mirrored Ceiling....

As a Republican female in politics if they don't call you 'puppet-on-a-man-string' they call you 'dumb' and if that doesn't do the trick thay call you 'fake' and if that dosn't work they'll call you a 'home-wrecker' and usually it's a combination of all of the above.

It will get much worse before it gets better. This fight is between women with very different views of the world and life, and very different rules for fighting.

Just watch.

Apparently, the right to choose does not include the right to choose to keep the baby.

The "right to choose" includes only the right to choose what liberal women choose. It's not about the act of choosing, but the object that is chosen. Which makes some sense, because you have to "choose" some direct object, and everyone values some objects more than others.

PM, that’s a very astute observation, and I believe there’s a lot to it. As with substance abusers, these women have to keep up the fix of pro-choice doctrine, or the thing they most dread, moral reality, will come crashing down hard on them. It’s sad, and it’s a sad state of affairs that a whole generation of them has risen to be the predominant cultural guiding lights.

I don’t want to leave this without saying that forgiveness for any sin is available in Christ. There is no need to despair, punish oneself, deny, or avoid. Everyone can be washed clean in Him. He paid the price for us.

Judith Warner’s sex life is none of our business, and what she writes is more than sufficient to discredit her.

With two exceptions:

1) She publicly opines about it, or uses her column as a soapbox to talk about it

2) She wants *us* to pay for it (e.g. taxpayer funded abortions, or IVF, or...)

Cheers!
