Hurricane Ike Live Thread
NOAA/NHC ^ | 7 September 2008 | NOAA/NHC

Posted on 09/07/2008 8:37:37 AM PDT by NautiNurse

Hurricane Ike is the fifth tropical cyclone of the 2008 hurricane season to threaten U.S. Gulf Coast states.

Reports from Turks & Caicos Islands describe 80 per cent of homes damaged or destroyed. On Sunday, Hurricane Ike's position just north of Hispanola was hampering relief efforts for devastation incurred by Hurricane Gustav and Tropical Storm Fay. The death toll in Haiti from Gustav reached 200 people.

Florida Governor Charlie Crist held a press conference Sunday morning shortly after a Hurricane Watch was issued for the Florida Keys.

Oh, I remember the photo you posted a several years ago of the stunning view from your yard. I understand completely why you watch the GOM storms very closely.

I have the memory of an elephant :o)

Welcome to Texas, rw! Hubby and I are both native Kansans and now live in the Lone Star state.

We are currently traveling in the RV driving across Kansas enroute to MO. I’m actually typing this as we drive east on I-70, internet aircard is working of a router in the coach.

NN, bravo on your responses to the Obama pollster, LOL!

Hiya PB, just checking on the hurricane thread and saw your post. Just wondering what you and hubby are thinking about the Palin Pick?

Hurricane Sarah?

So far I’m fine, but any move north by Ike and I’m in for it. Right now if the track holds I’ll get strong topical storm winds and a 6-8 foot tide, no big deal.

After we discussed health care and the overall differences between Hillary and Sarah, the caller was very defeated and depressed. Cheers!

Well, it looks like Galveston’s main concern at this time is tidal surge on the west end, with 4 to 8 foot tides expected. Voluntary evacuation includes Tiki Island, Dickinson, Kemah and Clear Lake areas. It doesn’t look like the winds are an issue right now.

Pretty wimpy response, stay safe in Seabrook, that’s where all the water piles up. FYI new model runs are out and inching north.

i know how you feel, my parents live in a condo on the Seawall in Galveston. I’ve also got an elderly uncle/aunt in LaMarque, and cousins in Santa Fe and Dickinson.

From the get-go I’ve never had anything against Palin. Initially I was concerned she’d be too unknown, however she’s made a good impression and now in large thanks to the drive by media, people DO know her! LOL!

Husband thought she was an excellent choice from the beginning. I certainly like her principles and although I hate to see what her family is being put through, I’m hopeful she’ll be able to weather it.

The VP debate will be MUST WATCH television this year. And the media loves it’s ratings. I hope she cleans Joe Biden’s freekin’ clock!

well, with the size of IKE, Hurricane and tropical force winds will extend very far out unless the winds start pulling back in; we could see Hurricane winds out 100 miles from the center.

"condo on the Seawall in Galveston"

Now that living good, LaMarque might not be a good place to spend Ike. Dickenson/Santa Fe shlould be ok.
