Obama made his first direct criticism of Republican vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin on Saturday, saying she pretends to oppose spending earmarks when she actually has embraced them.
Speaking to 800 people at the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds in Terre Haute, Ind., the Democratic presidential nominee ridiculed McCain and his running mate, the Alaska governor, for describing themselves as agents of change at last week's GOP convention.
"Don't be fooled," Obama told the crowd surrounding him in a large barn. "John McCain's party, with the help of John McCain, has been in charge" for nearly eight years.
McCain has vowed to wipe out earmarks, which are targeted funding for specific projects that legislators put into spending bills. As governor, Palin originally supported earmarks for a controversial $398 million Alaska project dubbed the "bridge to nowhere." But she dropped her support after the state's likely share of the cost rose. She hung onto $27 million to build the approach road to the bridge.

looks like we were thinking along the same lines ;-)
Thanks.
Also true that given the relatively small population and the amount of land that belongs to the Feds, that makes sense.
“Michelle Obama appointed vice president for community and external affairs at the University of Chicago Hospitals”
Can someone explain what the VP for Community and External Affairs at a hospital does?
It sounds like one of those nothing appointments where you are not really responsible for getting anything done, so you can just do whatever you want to do.
“Has anyone published a list of earmarks by McCain versus Obama during their terms as senators? I would think the RNC would have something like this? “
Not really a fair comparison. Obama hasn’t been in office long enough to actually get ANY earmarks. However, he has written 3 memoirs.
He’s also helped author a bill to raise taxes by $845 billion.
Maybe some UIC alumni were appalled by their refusal to release Hussein Obama’s documents with Ayers. Although, it sounds like they scrubbed the documents before they released them to the public. This is really a black mark on UIC.
The University of Illinois at Chicago released documents Tuesday about Barack Obamas service to a school reform group linked to former 1960s radical William Ayers, but details about their interactions were scant in minutes from some early board meetings.
The minutes characterized Obamas concerns as twofold: Whether the group was raising additional money and whether money was being used to prop up existing organizations as opposed to creating fresh educational practices in the schools?
At the end of five years, will we have broken the mold? Not much seems to be bubbling up that is inspiring or substantive, the minutes say, paraphrasing Obama.

“”””They didn’t want a large crowd. he is trying to appear small town like.””””
Obama is finding out that on Saturday night in small town America people first listen to the Lawrence Welk show and then they watch specials such as the Rick Warren Saddleback Forum.
Small town America heard enough four weeks ago and they do not care to listen to Obama again. When Obama said the President’s job was above his pay grade, that was enough for them.
Wowzer!!
Dont forget Obamas venue was at the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds and he was probably competing with the Hog Judging that was going on while he was speaking.

Did Oprah win the Hog contest?
I hope he gets crushed so badly they have to scrape him up with a snow shovel and rinse the mess off with a garden hose.
LOL! 800 people is a little disappointing for the Messiah, isn't it? Hardly worth turning up for a crowd that small. Looks like the tide has turned.
It would seem that BHO has opened that and many other things for challenge.
Great pic!
the rumor from the campaign trail is that they are having to bus party faithful in (and pass out No-Doze and cans of Red Bull) to fill seats at Biden events...
I hope Obama gets crushed so badly the Democrat Party is forced to remake itself with Joe Lieberman as its new leader.
Also true that given the relatively small population and the amount of land that belongs to the Feds, that makes sense.
Yes, I'm sure you're right about that. Also too, I think the ratings only take individual income taxes into account, but that's not the full story when activities by multinational corporations are a good share of a state's economic activity. If corporate taxes are included in those numbers (rankings), earnings are paid from the state where their headquarters are located, regardless of where their earnings were actually produced, so the state with the big office building, instead of the oilfield would get credit for the corporation's taxes.
The media and Dems are out to destroy Palin. They have to! The Dems and their media pals have worked for 8 years making President Bush a villain in their effort to reclaim the Presidency. Sarah Palin is messing up their well laid plans. If they don't destroy Palin now the Dems may very well have to wait another 8 to 12 years before they have a chance to elect a Dem President. Democrats want power now.
Awesome photo! Thanks for the post.
