The GOP presidential candidate attracted roughly the same number of viewers to his convention acceptance speech Thursday as Obama did before the Democrats last week, according to Nielsen Media Research.

It marked the end of an astonishing run where more than 40 million people watched political speeches on three nights by Obama, McCain and Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin. The Republican convention was the most-watched convention on television ever, beating a standard set by the Democrats a week earlier.

They also have this little nuggest in the story:

"No one really thought they had it in them in terms of pulling off this amazing convention," said Jay Wallace, vice president for news and editorial at Fox News Channel. But Hurricane Gustav pulled people into the news networks over the weekend, he said. People were also intensely curious about McCain's pick of Palin as a running mate, he said.

So Michael Moore and that Ex-DNC Chair guy, looks like Gustav may have actually helped the RNC a little.

Wrong.! It was not Gustav. It was Palin alone.

I heard some of the Dems talking earlier in the week saying what a pathetic turnout it had....pitiful little convention. Boy, were they proven wrong. GO SARAH PALIN

Notice that there is no comparison between Palin’s speech and Biden’s?! Biden is clearly dismissed by the American people as “same old same old”.

" But Hurricane Gustav pulled people into the news networks over the weekend, he said."

But if Gustav had happened during the DNC Convention, the talking heads would have said, "Millions of potential viewers had their power knocked out, satellite dished destroyed and cables ripped down, or the audience would have been overwhelming for the One!"

The body language “expert” on Oreilly slammed Palin tonight. Said her body language showed she was arrogant and something else. I think Oreilly should take a close look at his own “expert” when talking about bias in the media.

Tell the body language “expert” it’s called confidence.

I don’t buy that for one second. She was the most comfortable speaker I have ever seen. Obama is the most arrogant and egotistical person one can imagine.

The same expert criticized McCain’s posture during the announcement ceremony for Sarah; he stood with his hands folded in front of him, and she she said that this was a sign of submission, and that he should have held his hands behind his back to show strength. I was shouting at the screen that his arms, mangled by his POW torture, can’t reach behind his back!

Her body language said “make my day moonbats”, and so from the moonbat point of view of the “expert” that comes off as arrogant and scary. Normal people just see it as calm confidence.

She said Palin was arrogant, and McCain was not showing strength. She said Obama was reaching out, and had lots of confidence.

“The body language “expert” on Oreilly slammed Palin tonight. Said her body language showed she was arrogant.....”

I don’t watch O’Reilly often at all, but I have heard this ‘expert’ before. That type of thing always interests me. But I stopped being interested in the opinion of THIS particular ‘expert’ after hearing, sometime in the recent past, her reviews of Michelle and Barry’s ‘performances’. I don’t remember all the details, but both the Obamas were seen by her as honest, truthful and sincere people. I mean, come on, she didn’t peg Michelle with the tag of ‘arrogant’??? No, she didn’t. I guess she’s not really all that expert an expert after all.

I really believe this woman’s personal opinions color her analysis of what she is seeing. She may not even be aware of it. But phooey on her.

MY uneducated assessment of Sarah was one of poise and confidence...... and personal strength. NOT arrogance. Anecdotal stories I’ve read about Sarah over the past few days confirm for me my own opinion. People in Alaska love her. There are some, of course, who’ve gone head to head with her who might not feel the same. I mean, going head to head against Saracuda, and losing, I’m sure didn’t set well with them. ;>)

Oreilly knows about McCain’s injuries. I was wondering why he didn’t point that out. I think he did say something the other day about McCain’s inability to raise his arms very high because of the beating he took by the commies.

I was wondering if that was the reason he always stands with his hands folded in front. Maybe the body expert should research her subjects a bit more before making snap judgements.

I always laugh when she comes on, her views are so different from mine, but Bill seems to like getting sucked in.

I wonder what the “body language expert” thought about Obama’s Greek columns? All these liberal mudslingers are getting old.

Arrogant? lmao..yea ok.
It’s going to be difficult for these left wing gutter snipes to slam her for being “shrill”, “mean”, or “arrogant” when she comes across as a down to earth confident lady.

Notice that there is no comparison between Palin’s speech and Biden’s?! Biden is clearly dismissed by the American people as “same old same old”.

Biden was a US Senator, in the years John McCain was a POW. He clearly represents the past. He is irrelevant. The future belongs to the Palins, the Jindals, and on the other side, the Kaines.

Obama *could* have been part of that future, but he jumped too soon, and got too arrogant. Thus he cut his own throat, in his haste.

*THIS* the 2008 election cycle, is the first real election cycle of the 21st Century. This is the major reason that everything has been so strange, and the "conventional wisdom" has been set on its ear. New paradigms are/will be forming over the next decade, which will alter US politics for all time.

In a way, I believe McCain understands this, and was prepared for it. This is *why* he chose the running mate he did. It wasn't to secure the PUMA's, nor even to energize the base, but to give an orderly, sensible transition from "the old guard", to the "new vanguard".

By doing this, he does serve both his country, *AND* his party, well. That the choice actually accomplishes far more, well, that's a lot of gravy, to enhance the real meal...
