[Peggy] Noonan, [Mike] Murphy trash Palin on hot mic: 'It's over'
Politico ^ | Sep 3, 2008 | Ben Smith

Posted on 09/03/2008 1:45:52 PM PDT by Alter Kaker

After a segment with NBC's Chuck Todd ended today, Republican consultant Mike Murphy and Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan were caught on a live mic ridiculing the choice of Sarah Palin.

"It's over," said Noonan, and then responded to a question of whether Palin is the most qualified Republican woman McCain could have chosen.

"The most qualified? No. I think they wen tfor this-- excuse me -- political bullshit about narratives," she said. "Everytime Republicans do that -- because that's not where they live and it's not what they're good at and they blow it."

Murphy chimed in:

"The greatness of McCain is no cynicism, and this is cynical."

In today's Wall Street Journal, Noonan was warmer to Palin, whom she wrote "could become a transformative political presence."

"The Sarah Palin choice is really going to work, or really not going to work," Noonan wrote. "It's not going to be a little successful or a little not; it's not going to be a wash. She is either going to be magic or one of history's accidents. She is either going to be brilliant and groundbreaking, or will soon be the target of unattributed quotes by bitter staffers shifting blame in all the Making of the President 2008 books."

Since filing, Noonan has apparently decided which side this one is coming down on.

I disagree....just cause the coach benched ya for the game is not reason to give the playbook to the other side

..personally, I would not piss in Peggy’s ear if her brain was on fire......

I couldn’t agree more! Peggy Noonan has been having a love affair with her long, boring opinions for the past decade and it is pretty tiring. When I see one of her columns in the WSJ, I usually pass it by because I don’t want to waste my time with useless drivel.

Peggy hasn’t been the same since she divorced Richard Rahn.

Someone ought to toss Peggy a copy of her book When Character Mattered. Maybe Curt Shilling could bounce a copy off her noggin for us.

Mitt, don't be scared by the attacks. I like what I see of Palin so far, but let's see a. how she performs tonight and b. how she performs in the debate.

Nevertheless, after their behavior this election, I am all for open season on MSM journalists due to their figurative fellating of Obama and roasting of the GOP. A sharp tongue can always be cut out and the sword IS mightier than the pen.

Yall don't jump all over me but I don't think McCain was brilliant but lucked out. I think he went for a conservative woman to draw in votes but had no idea how this was going to play out and is now just sitting back grinning and enjoying the ride.

I'll be nice - but my tagline should explain my feelings...

I strongly suspect that Peggy’s “it’s over” comment was a reference to McCain’s other possible VP choices, not Palin’s candidacy. Smith was careful not to provide any context for that quote. Politico has been steadily slanted to the left, and has to be taken with a large scoop of salt.

Tsk. Caught talking out both sides of your mouth Peggy?

I really don’t know why anyone here has defended her. her column after Bush’s 2005 Inaugural speech pretty much signaled who she was. But it certainly is over for someone. Look in a mirror Peg.

Face it, even the best of them are elitist jerks. They can’t see past the beltway. They have know idea what the rest of the country thinks.

Which is exactly why their going after Palin's daughter is going to backfire.

More people can identify with the Palins in this situation that the leftist elites can even think of; either because they've been there, or are related to someone who has. I seriously doubt there's an American today that doesn't know someone in the unwed pregnant teen category. When they criticize them, they criticize mainstream America.

What they don't realize in their stereotyping of the (religious) right, is that we're about forgiveness. The right isn't going to brand this girl with a scarlet "A" like they like to think we will.

They are sooooo out of touch with real people.

Meaning if she is good, that will not be enough.

Who gives a flying FReep? For the media, Abraham Lincoln (a Republican, remember?) would not have been a good enough speaker. Cicero (a Republican) wouldn't be good enough.

What matters is what the VOTERS think.

Wow. Noonan just dropped a bunch of notches on my ladder of respect.
She’s always been a country club, “Rockefeller Republican,” and she never could stand any candidate who wasn’t a patrician. Now the world knows the truth about her. What a buffoon. It’s over, Peggy.

She appears jealous, as do a lot of the women I see on TC trashing Palin.

I'm afraid you're right. The depth of resentment among women against good-looking women is hard to believe sometimes.

It is surprising to me how good Palin and McCain look together. (Not in the sense you men are thinking!) They have the image of a team.

McCain is not losing independents. Look at the latest Gallup poll:

http://www.gallup.com/poll/109975/Obama-Gains-Overall-McCain-Among-GOP-Women.aspx

This weekend McCain led among indie men 47-42, Obamessiah led among indie women 46-39. Both showed movement toward B. Hussein. From the convention bounce.

Just a few minutes ago I heard Zogby talking about the high number of independent women still considered as undecided.

We've got a very close race for independents, and Palin & McCain haven't yet had their shining moments.

Two points.

First, about Noonan. IMO her writing and opinions have been amiss for a year or two. Once in a while she hits on something worthwhile, but otherwise she’s wrapped up in her own world. I hope her candid assessment here is proven wrong, big time.

Second, this site has sadly descended to the level [that I imagine] Kos is at. Very many of the responses here are truly pathetic trash. Someone from the outside would be rightly turned off by the bitter spirit reflected in these comments. People here need to be brought up; some need to be shown the door.
