Sarah Palin and the Two Americas
Real Clear Politics ^ | September 03, 2008 | Thomas Lifson

Posted on 09/03/2008 5:24:58 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Liberals have long lamented the existence of two nations in America. They are right to do so today, but in a way they never meant. It is not the divide between rich and poor which soon will be causing serious pain on the left. Sarah Palin's pending nomination for Vice President is exposing the depth of the cultural divide between Middle America and the leftists who have taken over the education, media, and cultural establishment of our country.

The announcement of Palin's selection by Senator McCain last Saturday reportedly triggered outright laughter in newsrooms across the land, a nearly unanimous opinion that she would be a disaster for McCain. -snip-

A desperate race is underway, with the liberal media scampering to define Sarah Palin to the public as a dangerous religious fanatic and naïve hick, some kind of back woods primitive incapable of effectively discharging the awesome job of president, soon to be thrust upon her as John McCain expires right after his inauguration. Tonight, Governor Palin will have her opportunity to speak directly to the American people, and thanks to the blizzard of critical coverage, she will be no doubt attract an enormous audience.

She has the rarest of qualities: authenticity. Media and Beltway types can't fathom what that is. It goes right over their heads. Not even on the radar screen. Her multiple facets -- beauty queen, moose hunter, mother, member of an Assembly of God Church, and ferocious reformer of corrupt politics may baffle sophisticates, but ordinary Americans see all the pieces fitting together, and they recognize a type of person they know and love.

There, fixed it. (Normal needs no explanation)

The Establishment media elitists can’t stand real American women so they lynch a 17 yr old girl to hurt the mom. They must be so proud of themselves. Their parents must be proud too. She is what America is about.

Pray for W, the Palins and Our Troops

Interestingly enough, laughter is often a dead giveaway, a glimpse into the pschological state of the person doing the laughing... it’s what many people do when they are nervous.

Something just occurred to me.

Because of their lack of acceptance of God, the nature of Man as a creation in God’s image, and his fallen state,

libs believe that humans are basically good, and that society (groupthink/collectivism) has the most influence on whether an individual turns out good or bad, successful or impoverished.

This is why they take over all the cultural institutions, because they view them as more important than the individual.

Then, when an individual comes along that could influence (destroy the power base of) those institutions, they FREAK OUT.
An individual isn’t supposed to be inherently strong of character!
An individual isn’t supposed to be this influential!
That’s SOCIETY’S job!

And it is solely for that... that they must destroy her.

To laugh at Sara Palin as a 'weak' candidate is the dead giveaway that the laugher is estranged from the reality of daily survival.

We are so rich that our society can afford to have idiots writing the news, teaching the kids and making movies for adults.

This description of Sarah Palin is exactly how many viewed Abraham Lincoln in his day.

Yeah, they laughed , then the laughter was immediately followed by “Oh, shit, what do we do now? We have nothing to compare with her, we can’t beat her on the issues, after all she is more qualified than our Presidential candidate. Ah , time for another good ol’ smear campaign.”

Go Sarah!

The negative press against Sarah has gone almost unchecked since McCain's announcement last Friday. Except for very few like Bill Bennett defense over her, nearly everything has been negative about her. Tonight we will see the first real attempt by the campaign to set the record straight, and let people know who Sarah Palin really is. Once America comes to know her, they will like her, and the poll numbers will go the other way.

If the truth prevails, the McCain/Palin ticket wins.

I was fortunate enough to live in Alaska during the late 70’s. (My first assignment in the Army). Murkowski and Stevens were, even then, major players in the political scene in the state. Politics in Alaska then, as now, is a full contact sport not for the faint of heart of weak willed.
When warned by a McCain staffer to expect attack after attack against herself and her family Gov. Palin smiled and asked the staffer, “Do you know the difference between a Hockey Mom and a Pitbull?” The staffer said no. She replied “Lipstick.” You underestimate her at your peril.

Thomas Lifson:

... She has the rarest of qualities: authenticity. Media and Beltway types can't fathom what that is. It goes right over their heads. Not even on the radar screen. Her multiple facets -- beauty queen, moose hunter, mother, member of an Assembly of God Church, and ferocious reformer of corrupt politics may baffle sophisticates, but ordinary Americans see all the pieces fitting together, and they recognize a type of person they know and love.

... Sarah Palin is the ultimate All-American Girl, beautiful but not glamorous, powerful but unpretentious, high-powered but down-to-earth, a reformer who speaks up while others cower in fear of rocking the boat. Like Ronald Reagan, she can reach right through the television camera into people's minds and hearts. We recognize one of us.

... The left, so wrapped in artifice and fakery, are driven crazy by this. Her behavior appears bizarre, inexplicable. In their minds, she is a disaster and they pretend to be gleeful, asking when McCain will dump her. All while panicking, because they can see the energized GOP base and the failure of Barack Obama to garner the ten-to-fifteen point post-convention bounce to be expected after his speech before the multimillion-dollar Greek temple set and fireworks at Invesco Field only 5 days ago. Those who planned the classical Greek theatrical stage never for second contemplated the possibility of a deus ex machina named Sarah.

... Republicans are thrilled by what they see in Sarah Palin. Reform Republicanism with a younger generation in charge could knock the left out of power for a generation. The genius Bobby Jindal, out to reform Louisiana as Palin reformed Alaska, awaits the 2012 VP nomination with Sarah at the top of the ticket, if McCain wins this election. Suddenly the Republicans have a claim on being the vote for change.

... Ronald Reagan never let the contempt of the cultural, literary and journalistic elites bother him. He simply spoke over their heads directly to the American people. And changed the world. In Sarah Palin, we may well have a figure able to do the same. All eyes will be on her tonight

Nailed It!

This ping list is not author-specific for articles I'd like to share. Some for the perfect moral clarity, some for provocative thoughts; or simply interesting articles I'd hate to miss myself. (I don't have to agree with the author all 100% to feel the need to share an article.) I will try not to abuse the ping list and not to annoy you too much, but on some days there is more of the good stuff that is worthy of attention. You can see the list of articles I pinged to lately  on  my page.
You are welcome in or out, just freepmail me (and note which PING list you are talking about). Besides this one, I keep 2 separate PING lists for my favorite authors Victor Davis Hanson and Orson Scott Card.

This gets to the core of what I have observed. People that actually do something and accomplish something are looked down upon by the political elite.

You are only someone if you have an Ivy League degree and have worked in politics in DC or some large city.
Your hobbies must be something that you do not get dirty doing.

Palin is refreshing, I hope we can take her to the finish line.

Great article. It highlights EXACTLY the mentality of the left, i.e. that THEY, sitting and admiring their Ivy League shingles while sipping $6 lattes, are the only ones capable of understanding what the little people need.

Military brat turned fighter jock/ex-POW John McCain is just TOO OLD to understand and Gov Palin, well, she is, in their opinion, just barely above white trash, are just too unsophisticated to understand the nuances of the penumbras of the emanations of the Constitution.
