Rick Klein, from ABCs The Note, reports: Lets say you dont read The New York Times or The Washington Post (or The Note, for that matter). Lets say you dont follow the big political blogs and youre not obsessed with every turn of the screw of this fascinating presidential race.
Lets say, instead, like millions ofworking-class Americans, you get your news on the political race from the supermarket aisle. Lets say youre -- I dont know, a hockey mom -- and youre intrigued by this Sarah Palin person youve been hearing so much about since Friday.
So youre shopping this week -- and what do you see on the cover of US Weekly? That esteemed journalistic institution is taking it right to John McCains running mate -- with a hard-hitting piece that details the scandal involving her daughters pregnancy.
BABIES, LIES & SCANDAL, screams the headline on the cover, with a picture of a smiling Palin holding her fifth child, 4-month-old Trig.
Inside is a collection of Palin lowlights -- from her daughters now well-known pregnancy; to Internet rumors that the governor pretended to be pregnant to cover for her daughter; to troopergate; to her onetime support for the bridge to nowhere; to a radio appearance where she giggled while shock jocks called a political rival a bitch and a cancer.
-snip-
But this, to me, is the clearest evidence yet that the McCain-Palin campaign is losing the battle over Palins image. US Weekly readers are the voters her selection was designed to attract. Theres not much to like in this early take -- and not much to indicate that the next round will be much better.

A bit of yellow journalism from the DNC’s Pravda Publishing.
Orwell warned us of Stalinist tactics.
It’s just wishful thinking from the cult of the magic muslim.
What is the note? I have to admit that part of me thinks that the scum who support this kind of behavior will get what they deserve if Obama wins.

I have seen lots of stories on the cover of Star and the Enquirer about how Bush is back to drinking and how Laura is just about to leave him.
The readers of this trash are not voters.
I don’t know about that, the media seems to have a double standard this election
“How do you not know if Chelsea Clinton has already had an abortion or two?”
That would require a man to touch her...
I do think that Barry will fail to close the deal, but it's not impossible for us to blow it all by ourselves. If we make a lot of tabloid news over the next couple of months, while the MSM protects Barry, we will not be taken seriously come Election Day.
Neither or us have any evidence that Chelsea, the Gore girls, the Biden daughters or Bush twins have ever had an abortion. And if they have, it is really none of our business.
However, the United States does have an astronomical abortion rate and by looking at the numbers of abortions in the country over the last 30 years it is obvious that both Democratic and Republican women elect to abort their babies.
You really think the editors and publishers will care about your complaints? They'll welcome them as signs you're READING the mag!
So make up you mind. Should the media go after the family members of the Presidential and VP candidates or are they off limits?
I for one think the media should leave the members of the McCain, Palin, Obama and Biden families alone and just stick to the issues.
However, it is apparent that partisans on both sides want their people left alone and the other side savaged in the media and on the blogs.
btt
You may be right since I do not recall Al Gore's son being busted before the last Convention but I am sure if his mom or dad were running for President of VP that the media would have covered the story.
McCain and Palin will go nuclear after the convention.
Obama and the MSM will regret going down this path.
It’s one thing to scandal mongering if there is some little bit of evidence. But what can you do, when they just make it up? I have just never seen the MSM go this personally nasty this fast. The only reason I can imagine is they know how good the Palin pick was.
But right after the convention, McCain and Palin have to address these issues immediately. And then to turn the spotlight back on Obama’s issues, of which there are plenty. No longer can McCain play nice with Obama and the media. He is going to have to say it straight like Fred Thompson did tonight.
PravdABDNC/Oblack lynching a 17 yr old pregnant girl. They must be so proud of their careers.
Pray for W, Palin and Our Troops
I remember people saying the same thing about Jamie Lynn Spears that they say about Bristol: That she should be lauded for choosing life for her child.
I also think comparisons with Spears are apple and orange to a certain extent because Spears’ family is totally screwed up and Palin’s isn’t. We can be pretty sure that Palin is doing more to get good values across to her kids that Lynne Spears, that Bristol doesn’t have an older sister whose career hinges mainly on how good her cans look, and Bristol never attended a wedding where she was (at the age of 14) issued a tracksuit tha proclaimed her to be “Juicy” while all the men in the wedding party were wearling “Pimp” tracksuits.
Spears and Palin are both teens who got pregnant. The similarities end there.
Evidence?
Bristol was attending campaign events while being five months pregnant which would have made it obvious to most that she was with child.
after the press release the msn had no choice but to publish the story.
See my post 97. The reactions to the Spears and Palin pregnancies are different because the underlying situations are very different. And, I forgot to mention in my post that Spears is supposed to be a role model for her fans and Bristol Palin was not in that position.
