Here's Joe Biden's reaction to John McCain's pick of Sarah Palin as his vice-presidential running mate. "There's a gigantic difference between John McCain and Barack Obama and between me and I suspect my vice presidential opponent," he said in Toledo, Ohio. Pause for the punch-line. "She's good looking." It's the way he tells em, folks.
A female supporter shouted out: "You are gorgeous!" The Delaware senator duly asked her to say it again into the microphone so his wife Jill would hear at home. "I haven't heard that in a long, long, long time," Biden said. "Being around this lean young-looking guy is making me feel pretty old, you know what I mean? I thought I was in pretty good shape until I hung out with this guy."
Amid all the kerfuffle over Sarah Palin, it's worth remembering that one advantage of the pick could be that Joe Biden has a habit of behaving like your slightly embarrassing uncle. Or, as Alex Massie puts it, he's "the sort of man I've met many a time in Irish pubs".
It might seem endearing - or not. At best, it's a risky tack to take with women voters. Nothing he says is actually offensive but it makes you cringe nevertheless. At a Delaware delegation breakfast in Denver last week, Biden began his remarks by saying: "Ladies and gentlemen - mostly ladies, thank God for small favours."
During his first appearance with Barack Obama in Springfield, Illinois, he said: "Ladies and gentlemen, my wife, Jill, who you'll meet soon, is drop-dead gorgeous.

Joe Biden reminds me of many a sales manager I’ve met/worked with on a business trip who had way too much to drink at the airport or hotel bar.
This dolt is going to get harvested like ripe corn in the debates. The Delaware dumba** is hopeless!
