Advantage GOP: Republicans rising .....(Conservatives Awake - Liberals Panic)
Pittsburgh Tribune ^ | August 31, 2008 | Editorial

Posted on 09/02/2008 5:42:19 AM PDT by IrishMike

To the amazement of many, Republicans find themselves positioned quite well as they head into their nominating convention this week in St. Paul.

It's incomprehensible to some that John McCain is running in a statistical dead heat with Democrat Barack Obama this Labor Day weekend. An unpopular war, a challenging economy, and liberals offering that deceptively sweet elixir of "change" -- not to mention Sen. Obama's groundbreaking run -- should have Obama in a double-digit lead.

But while the electorate flirts with being enamored, it's also reserving its right to be skeptical. Consider: Obama is the most inexperienced presidential candidate ever. And despite all his bad-mouthing of just about everything Republican, the climate has been shifting. Critical challenges remain in Iraq but the war's tide is rising in democracy's direction. The economy remains in the woods but there are hints of sunlight in a clearing straight away.

Obama, a very liberal young hand, needed to pick as his running mate a very liberal old hand, Sen. Joe Biden, to give him gravitas. Conversely, McCain, an old hand with plenty of gravitas but his conservative bona fides questioned by his base, pleasantly stunned the political world with the deft choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, an exciting and young conservative's conservative, as his running mate.

Sixty-five days before Election Day, Republicans have the advantage. And this presidential race truly now is the GOP's to lose.

A little too optimistic. Until I see McCain ahead in consecutive polls in NV, CO, OH, and FL, I won’t agree that it’s the “GOP’s to lose.” Moreover, it certainly doesn’t appear to be filtering into the House and Senate races except in CO, where the Republican has closed the gap. But in NM, Udall is still up a lot, and I’m not seeing any other race but LA that might go our way.

Dems are not as afraid of McCain as they are of W. Half of them are more afraid of Black Racist Oblack than Maverick/Palin.

Pray for W, Palin and Our Troops

This is the trend for sure. If it wasn’t for the blatent campaigning of the MSM for Obama, it would be a McCain landslide for certain. It could still break either way, but the GOP has Obama on the defense now for over a month, and his core message is crumbling. His speech last week had nothing memorable in it, other than negativity. He’s off his game.

Nevada because of the price of oil. Gambling industry and tourist industry is in the tank. Florida is a GOP state. Ohio will go GOP.

The dems tired to pull some phony 60’s hype with this clown obama. He’ll lose. I don’t like a lot of what McCain has done, but he’s no phony. Picking Palin changed this election dramatically. It shows a great deal of intelligence.

And well they should be! The only people who aren’t aftaid of him are either idiots or complicit in his evil plans. I tremble in my boots to think that we have come to the point that someone like Obama is even encouraged to consider running, let alone being the Democrat nominee. We have had numerous fringe candidates in the past who would have been better than Obama and they were lucky to get one percent of the primary vote. There is nothing left of the Democrat party worth saving.

Couldn't help but be stunned by the 62% - 38% AOL survey, McCain/Palin leading...and every state red. I know a lot can happen in the coming days, and the glitz will wear off, but in the end, it is the real thing that will emerge, and I am still thinking that McCain & Palin will carry this. I have not been so excited about an election cycle in...well, since Reagan! I think many feel like I do! This IS change, my friends!

CO = Dead heat, ditto NV, OH with FL McCain +3.1.

Given the place we are and the Bradley Effect, I’d say we are in a leadership position. Barely. But with a fired up base and a clear message contrast to the socialism of the left.

I feel the same way. I've had a McCain bumper sticker on my car since July, but now I am thrilled to be getting a McCain/Palin one. People I saw at the PriceChopper this a.m. and people I saw pumping gas yesterday are fed up with the Dems. From the Congress to Barry Obama, they bring nothing but misery to the American people.

Team Obama is behind all these slurs about the Palin family, of that I have no doubt. Who can't see what unbelievable lowlifes they are for attacking a Down Syndrome baby, and a defenseless 17 yr. old girl. The Left and the Dems are shooting their own collective a@@es off by doing this to the Palin family, and I just know that it's going to open up the eyes of lots of regular people to just who and what the Left and the Dems are, and what they are willing to do to capture the WH.

Source, please? Are you looking at composites or most recent? RCP has a “composite” of OH with McCain in the lead, but he trails in the most recent. The composite was a Ras poll that had him up 10 (way too much, even if true). Latest NV poll has Obama up 4-5.

If you're sick of all this media BS, you can give it back to them in spades by volunteering at your local McCain/Palin office or online.

Make a leftwing reporter cry.

the panic and desperation among liberals is becoming palpable - check out this hilarious moonbat rovian conspiracy theory i read on the capitol hill blue web site:

“[...]McCain, being the alpha male he is, will accept her withdrawal from the race to ‘protect her from the vicious assault on the left’ and thereby accomplish a move even Karl rove (assuming he didn’t orchestrate it) would envy. McCain can then name another Veep, one he actually wants, and still claim the ‘high ground’ and support for women and conservative values.
[...]
She was never intended to be the candidate anyhow.

She was the bait. Watch for the switch.”

Yep, that’s right - Karl Rove has orchestrated a fake vp choice, followed by a fake pregnancy rumor, in order to allowm McCain to get the VP “he really wants.” LOL!

A taxi driver in Vegas told me and my wife the same thing last month. He hates Harry Reid, thinks he will lose next election. Luxor hotel was comping us nights in SUITES and we were only on our second stay there. It's a great time to go to Vegas if you were thinking of going, hotels are begging for tourist dollars!
