McCain Camp Rebukes Democrat Claims Against Palin

McCain camp rebukes Democrat claims Published: 09/01/2008

The McCain camp rebuked claims by Democrats that Sarah Palin once associated with Pat Buchanan.

"Governor Palin has never worked for any effort to elect Pat Buchanan -- that assertion is completely false," Michael Goldfarb, a spokesman for the presidential campaign of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), told ABC over the weekend in discussing Palin, the Alaska governor and vice presidential choice.

On Aug. 29, the Democratic Party issued a release quoting U.S. Rep. Robert Wexler (D-Fla.) as saying that McCain's pick was a "direct affront to all Jewish Americans" because of reports of Palin's past associations with Buchanan, who has long postulated that the pro-Israel lobby is inordinately influential and that Hitler might have been contained through peaceful means.

Wexler's comments appear based on a 1999 report that Palin wore a Buchanan button during Buchanan's visit to Wasilla, the town she then led as mayor. At that time, however, Palin had written a letter to the local paper explaining that she wore campaign buttons as a matter of courtesy when candidates came to visit the town.

Palin was an official of the campaign of Steve Forbes, who like Buchanan was contending for the Republican presidential nomination.

Buchanan said he recalls meeting Palin at a 1996 fund-raiser in Alaska, but no record of her donating or supporting Buchanan at that time has surfaced.

I refer to the current McCampaign as Campaign2. The new manager he brought in is a genius. Before him, all we heard was McCain constantly berating anyone who dared to say something negative about Obama. Since the new guy, it’s one of the most impressive campaigns I’ve seen. They respond quickly and with aggressive precision to everything The Obomanation does.

The democrats continue to play HARDBALL (especially with the Palin family),,,,while McCain continues his 'civil, gentleman' campaign....

What those Democrats are doing is committing political suicide. What McCain is doing is an example of grace under extreme pressure and a masterful example of political combat. There are many others who will draw those comparisons and nobody in America is going to be able to totally tune them out. They will whisper in the ears of the electorate like a school yard snitch. But the campaign will hover far above that level of the trench warfare and by condemning that sordid tactic (I mean, REALLY! It's stupid!) the campaign will strengthen their bipartisan attraction to non republican voters.

Meanwhile, the DemocRATS can run a VP nominee who tells the Israelis that they basically need to get used to living near an enemy who will soon have the means to obliterate them and has vowed to do just that.

The McCain camp missed a golden opportunity to point out that Robert Wexler has been a U.S. Representative who has not lived in the district he represents for years. He and his family permanently live in D.C. He listed his mother-in-law’s home as his FL homestead. The FL residence is a seniors only development where Wexler’s children certainly could not live.

The character assassination begins. Glad they're hitting right back, hard and fast. Watching the assassination of President Bush's character obviously taught them how not to react to attacks (which was, basically, not reacting).

If associating with Buchanan is so offensive, I expect the Democrats will condemn MSNBC any minute now... (sound of crickets chirping).

it would completely turn off jewish voters and that’s what Wexler was trying to do

Should be Lieberman out there refuting Wexler's claims.

Maybe, maybe not. Their hardball campaign of trumped up charges is driving voters to the McCain ticket. Lots of voters are tired of the messy, hardball, BS of the campaign trail. Last night as I listened to the radio the news at the top of the each hour seemed to have another new smear against the Palin family. Each smear seemed more trivial and from years if not decades ago, except for troopergate which is under investigation.

A friend of mine, devoted straight ticket democrat, called last night and wanted to talk about Bristol. She was highly offended at the tactic and tackiness she was seeing on TV. You see...she was a young single Mom at one time. She decided to keep her baby too. And what she was seeing and hearing was offensive. She was happy to hear that Bristol and her boyfriend love each other. Obviously her situation was different and she chose to become a single Mom.

I say let them try to play hardball with the Palin family values. Most Americans will be highly offended that they attempt to destroy a family.

Let me get this straight.

Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn hold Obama's very first political fundraiser in their home; however, we're not to imply any kind of relationship there.

But Palin once wore a Buchanan button when he visited her city (like she did for any politician visiting her city when she was mayor) and this is proof that she hates Israel.

OK.

This is good to know. The Bush policy of "Keeping above the fray of uncivil discourse by simply not responding to attacks - ANY attacks by the left" only inspired the smear merchants to get more creative and dramatically more repetitive.

Take the "Tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans" BS that has been repeated hundreds of times by every Donk with a mike. By far the biggest beneficiaries were the low to middle class, approximately 40 million of which haven't paid any federal income tax since.

Every single person who pays taxes got a huge break from Bush right after he got into office, and most got rebates of $600 as well.

By letting the lie stand - and grow, we now have 7 voting age graduating classes who have no reason to expect that the democrats and their teachers have been perpetuating a lie. Now Mac is being smeared with the same mud, and he's either going to combat the smears or concede the Presidency. Feeding the BDS beast was unbecoming of him, and self destructive.

He needs to briefly but decidedly point out the good things that happened during the Bush presidency, such as the tax cuts, recovering from 911, and defeating Al Qaeda in Iraq, setting an example for the world to follow in our generosity - quote figures - expose the corruption in the UN and actions taken, point out how Bush took Enron and Arthur Anderson to task and tried to clean up the stock market, all the while democrats spent their time scheming to get into power by claiming, as B O just did, that America has committed evil under the guise of doing good.

He should ask people if they think we are evil for eliminating a threat.

He should ask people what they think of O's upside down flag on the passes.

He should ask them if they have ever seen any American other than Obama cup their genitals during the Pledge of allegiance.

He should ask them if they believe in self determination, then describe all the ways he's going to get monolithic government out of their way.

He should compare the quality of life Americans enjoy to socialist nations, then ask them how anyone could think America is broken.

Then he should hand the mike over to the articulate, vivacious, and righteous Sarah Palin to bring it home.

Methinks the Dems don't really want a walk down Past Associations Lane...

Like the "no experience" issues... we should be EAGER to compare resumes on this front.

Indeed, it's time to play hardball. In this instance, it's done by laying bare the bias of the media: McCain ought to use a part his speech at the convention to demonstrate that the mainstream media is but a tool of the Democrats. Show the clip of Obama claiming that he'll let the press do the smearing/digging (I forget the exact quotation), and follow it immediately by Blitzer, Kondrake, and all the other punks dutifully employed in Palin’s destruction over her daughter's pregnancy.

In this instance, the intent would be to explicitly warn the public of the dangers of the media-Democrat complex, perhaps even claiming that it's an even bigger danger today than Eisenhower's reference to the dangers of the military-industrial complex of his time.

Well put! Not to mention Obama attends a church for 20 years with a racist anti-American preacher who blames the United States for 911 and we’re supposed to let that slide.

The Democrats do not have anything to attack Sarah with. She has changed the dynamics of this election. She blew their socks off.

So they resort to attacks about when her water broke, her teenage daughters sex life and garbage like this.

Hey Wexler, are you boys a little worried ?
