It was, more or less, an open secret. And everyone was saying the same thing: the governor's 17-year-old daughter is pregnant, the father is her boyfriend, and it's really nobody's business beyond that.
I happen to agree.

Dr. James C. Dobson of Focus on the Family issued the following statement:
"In the 32-year history of Focus on the Family, we have offered prayer, counseling and resource assistance to tens of thousands of parents and children in the same situation the Palins are now facing. We have always encouraged the parents to love and support their children and always advised the girls to see their pregnancies through, even though there will of course be challenges along the way. That is what the Palins are doing, and they should be commended once again for not just talking about their pro-life and pro-family values, but living them out even in the midst of trying circumstances.
"Being a Christian does not mean you're perfect. Nor does it mean your children are perfect. But it does mean there is forgiveness and restoration when we confess our imperfections to the Lord. I've been the beneficiary of that forgiveness and restoration in my own life countless times, as I'm sure the Palins have.
"The media are already trying to spin this as evidence Gov. Palin is a 'hypocrite,' but all it really means is that she and her family are human. They are in my prayers and those of millions of Americans."
This article is fair.
And, I suspect, the ultimate position that will taken by the majority on each side.
They keep articles like this coming up they might just turn the tide on their declining circulation.
How does FReeperdom do a bay shower?
Thank you. I never liked hot weather much anyway.
I don’t know but eloping like Todd and Sarah did has its pluses.
We send all the gifts to my kids, who will then deliver them to the hospital, if they choose the hospital in Wasilla again. I hope they do, I have an inside source up there!
Or he's not one who got her pregnant so he could get bragging rights to his friends around town ("I knocked up the guv's daughter"). And I hope she was smart enough not to pick a guy like that, if so the marriage (if there is one) is not likely to last as she grows older and grows up.
I think they are begrudgingly doing so now.
I agree: it is heartening to read. Maybe the townspeople live out their values so well that it makes visitors pause to consider their own.
I suggest that we each send them a wedding present - if a million people each sent $5.00 .....
The more I learn, the more appealing the place sounds.
I agree. The Mrs and I did it as it seemed rather Shakespearean.
Let’s get this thing organized!
And this is why I love Tennessee Nana. Hey, I’m in Tennessee, and I’m a Nana... dangit, I guess you got the corner on that name.
I have a new granddaughter too. I’m glad my now (after the conception) daughter in law didn’t decide to give her the death penalty for her and my son’s mistake as well.
That's because they want to beat Christian conservatives with a hypocrite stick, when something like this happens, because we are vocal in our support traditional families.
Where they make their mistake is thinking that Christians will shun those who don't live up to their standards, and Gov. Palin's family has shown that isn't the case.
For these people, it's as easy for them to defect to the McCain camp. We saw the same thing happen in the past with the "Regan democrats."
I was floored coming from Time.
