ST. PAUL -- The 17-year-old daughter of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant, Palin said on Monday in an announcement intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child.

Despite it computing or not computing, that’s what the statement said. McCain knew and it didn’t matter.

Now the question for us is this: Why does it matter if Bristol made a mistake with her boyfriend?

It would matter a lot if she were getting an abortion.

The bottom line, though, is that it’s family business — their family, not mine. I’ve got troubles of my own.

McCain Camp needs to get Bristol off the campaign...and find a nanny for Trig, if need be.

Bristol has made a premature decision about her life and now needs to live with that decision, she is only one year early out the gate. Put handlers with Bristol and “papa”, acsentuating the positives like going to college, buying their first home, graduating from high school...starting their new life together...etc..

These type events sure didn’t Dick Cheney with his lesbian daughter.

Palin should follow Obama’s example and send her family off to live in huts on $12 per month. It was a good solution to hide Obama’s brother, until some idiot in the press managed to track him down.

I think the smart and graceful thing is to “decline to accept” the nomination. Allow a new (better vetted?) candidate to step up. After all, Sarah Palin has a lot on her plate: A son going to Iraq. A pregnant and unwed daughter. A newborn infant. She might be smart to not accept the nomination. QUickly.

That's the smart thing? My IQ was lowered 20 points just by reading that post. Gimme a break.

Obama, “I don’t want my daughter punished with a baby”.

Good point. So, let's say that hypothetically in the next 10 years the Obama teenage girls become sexually promiscuous sluts (this is only hypothetical, people!) -- that means that a baby will have to be punished for the promiscuity, irresponsability and ignorance of that particular "mother"?

Ah yes, what would they care anyway if they stand by the line that life doesn't begin at conception....

Tell me again how two teenagers with less than a high school education are going to support a baby without our tax dollars?

In Alaska's economy, a degree is less important for providing than in the lower 48. From what I understand, Alaska is a state where someone can make more money as an uneducated fur trapper than a lot of people can with a college diploma.

So you are now saying John did “bad stuff” with Price Charles? The news just keeps getting worse and worse.

You can't prevent teen sexual activity and it's stupid to pretend otherwise. Sarah should have made sure Bristol was on the pill and knew about the importance of using condoms.

We have no way of knowing what she did or didn't do in regards to her daughter's sex life--furthermore it is none of our business. The sad fact is she may have done her best to do the things you suggest- but having raised several teens myself I do know the old saying "you can take a horse to water but you can't make them drink" applies itself well to dealing with teens.

What an inspiration this family is!!! What courage of their convictions—they could have aborted the downs baby but did not. The daughter could have aborted her child, but did not. That is truly walking the pro-life walk. Don’t the “pro-choice” advocates always claim that we are hypocrites—that if it were our daughters we would march them off to the abortionist? This family’s conduct is telling—it reveals much about their character. Whereas, the left “outs” the poor girl in an attempt to alienate conservatives, thinking we would stone her, I suppose. Whether her family has failings has little to do with national policy or governance—how they respond has everything to do with it.

So, what you’re saying is that McCain should have chosen someone not as good as Palin because of this? Somehow that doesn’t seem “Country First” to me.

Congratulations on your grandchild-to-be, Governor Palin.

Methinks some are making a mountain out of a molehill on this.

I have already sent a note to FNC; read the statement and then don’t talk about it again. If the media attacks her daughter, the backlash will be enormous.

It underscores again that Palin is a regular lady from a regular family. She fishes, shoots, runs kids to school, worries over dating teens, and even has to deal with family crises.

I couldn't agree more.

This is part of LIFE that regular Americans live with and learn from and it happens everywhere. I doubt we could find a church ANYWHERE in America where this same thing isn't unfolding right now (I'm sure you've counseled more than a few members of your congregations over the years). I have no doubt that the Palins were initially shocked, angry and upset by the news, but they are supporting Bristol and most importantly, Bristol is doing the right thing.

The ENTIRE Palin family deserves our prayer, respect and gratitude as they demonstrate pro-life and pro-family Biblical principles.
