Why Obama is unlikely to get a convention bounce [Here come the excuses!]

DENVER - It has become a tradition at national conventions to speculate on the size of the presidential candidate's "bounce." The gold standard was set by Bill Clinton in 1992, when the newly anointed Democratic nominee busted out of his convention and rolled by bus across the swing-state heartland, buoyed by a hike of 16 percentage points in the Gallup poll.

Besides, the TV audience for national conventions has been steadily shrinking, which suggests that their impact on the national mood is waning.

That's strange... the DBM says that Obama's speech was viewed by over 40 million!

Whoa, so obama’s “bounce” was only 6% instead of 16%?

No race angle? I thought the excuse would be “America is not ready for a black president”...

I thought the excuse would be “America is not ready for a black president”...

That will come the day after Obama loses... and the riots begin.

Why Obama is unlikely to get a convention bounce

Because as a president he would suck royally and everyone but the most ardent supporters knows it. His speech at the convention showed what he's about, even though he still stayed nebulous. The programs he's promoting are expensive.

“If you talk to Warren [Buffet], he’ll tell you his preference is not to meddle in the economy at all — let the market work, however way it’s going to work, and then just tax the heck out of people at the end and just redistribute it,” Obama said. “That way you’re not impeding efficiency, and you’re achieving equity on the back end.” He continued by saying that he thought there was some merit in Buffett’s argument.

The 40 million who watched his speech (and even those who didn't) know funding of his pet projects takes a huge bite out of your paycheck. Nobody's fooled by this fool.

The problem with this viewpoint is that it fails to take into account the fact that when people know up front that their efforts will not matter in the end because the government is going to take much of what their extra efforts earn them, they won't be making those extra efforts. Taxing heavily on the back end is a sure way to inhibit productivity and investment on the front end.

B. Hussein Osama will not get a bounce because his support has peaked. He will be heading downhill from here.

Why Obama is unlikely to get a convention bounce

1. Biden. He just doesn't inspire the masses.

2. Obama. The big build up, the move to the stadium, the Hollywoodish Parthenon setting, and the lackluster acceptance speech that was little more than the same ole 40 years of liberal promises.

barack mcgovern’s dead marxist bounce lasted as long as his “triumphant” european dead marxist bounce. Not even the gang at cnn could do better than a 1 pointer and that was polling over a weekend in prime rat time.

This will be a big win.

Hussein doesn’t bounce. He falls flat. He is so light weight that he just floats down and down and down. There is no bounce.

Exactly. You cannot effect the economy in that way and expect no effect. It’s also the Big Lie behind Clinton’s budget surplus claims. He doesn’t tell you they were PROJECTED surpluses over years and based on things remaining the same, economically. That did not and hardly ever does happen.

do you think Warren Buffet would agree with that summary; well, maybe now that he’s 80 and has all his money tied up in a trust. But I hope BO uses the line frequently.

Obi should have started out with a salute and “I am Obi one k-nobi, and I am reporting for duty!”

Excrement tends to SPLAT, rather than bounce.

Gist of the article: it’s the pollster’s fault, it’s the holiday’s fault, it’s McCain’s fault, it’s the people’s fault because they don’t watch convention coverage anymore.

Did I leave anyone out?
