Very good news from The Nation:
>Remember when Pat Buchanan ran a number of hard-right, fringe campaigns for president in the late 1980s, 1990s and 2000? Well, guess who was supporting him:
From an AP report in 1999:
Pat Buchanan brought his conservative message of a smaller government and an America First foreign policy to Fairbanks and Wasilla on Friday as he continued a campaign swing through Alaska. Buchanans strong message championing states rights resonated with the roughly 85 people gathered for an Interior Republican luncheon in Fairbanks. Among those sporting Buchanan buttons were Wasilla Mayor Sarah Palin and state Sen. Jerry Ward, R-Anchorage. In fact, Buchanan himself told me he was thrilled by the choice, saying as soon as I mentioned it: Its great for the base. Im pretty sure shes a Buchananite! People seem to be missing the fact that this is a classic, Rovian appease-the-base choice.

UPDATE: On Hardball, Pat Buchanan just said Palin was part of the Brigade in Alaska in 96
While I'm here, did anyone else get email today from Fred Thompson? Says he has an important announcement on September 1st.
found it
I don’t get Fred Thompson emails anymore (not sure why) but I saw the item here on FR. I wonder what it is. Maybe the dazzling Mrs. Thompson is expecting again, bless their hearts.
Exactly my point.
Of course it was.
Your article = Bull Pucky

= The truth.
I was also a member of the Buchanan Brigades. Pat Buchanan RULES!
I got one .....big news he says. It is a follow up on his promise right after he resigned the campaign.
LOL. I can’t stand Pat, but beginning your political career supporting him is just a teeny tiny bit more reputable than hanging out with an admitted terrorist bomber. As long as we’re playing the guilt-by-association game.
If McClaughlin still keeps him on his program then why isn't there a hue and cry calling McClaughlin and all of the guests that appear on the McClaughlin Group Nazi nutjobs?
The reality is that anyone that believes that Buchanan is a Nazi nutjob is a paranoid crank.
I don't agree with Buchanan on everything, but he often has interesting, intelligent, and thoughtful things to say on a WIDE RANGE of subjects.
Unlike his libelers who are fixated on a single topic and have little or nothing to contribute of unique interest on even this one topic.
Agreed!
At least he was out in the arena fighting the good fight. Thanks for your Blood, Sweat and Tears Pat. Com'on people, we are not the enemy.
I hadn’t read the whole thing, hubby just hollered it in to me in the other room that we got an email, big news on the 1st. I see it’s some kind of pac. Guess we will get mail on the 1st to let us know. :-)
Your win the number 1 crap post of the day.
To be honest I like Patrick Buchanan. I think he's a good and honest guy.
But conservatives have been stuck wish several candidates over the last couple of decades that were, quite frankly, an embarrassment. I'm aware that some FReepers might disagree with me on who those candidates were. I might pick say, Alan Keyes or a Ron Paul as one of them whereas someone else might complain about Rudy Guiliani.
In general I agree with your admonition that “we are not the enemy”. But speaking only for myself there are times when the words, “I respectfully disagree” are simply not adequate for my thoughts and feelings.
Regardless I do want to avoid any arguments with fellow FReepers on THIS day when John McCain made a truly gutsy and brilliant selection for his Vice Presidential choice.
God Bless Sarah Palin.
Steve Forbes actually won Delaware primary during his first run for President.
What has happened to that state, re-electing that jackass Biden.
States are funny. Some of the stoutest Republican states in the Presidential races have Democrats at the state level.
According to this video, Buchanan himself stated both she and her husbands were fundraisers for him.

Uh, this video is circulating the Internet. Buchanan himself praises Palin, and Bucancan says both Palin and her husband were fundraisers for him.

Y'know, I've had about half the weekend to think about it, and the true brilliance of the pick of Sarah Palin is not that she shores up the conservative base, but that she is such a tempting target for the Rats. They have already gone after her on a number of issues, that end up blowing up in their faces.
Every time they bring up her "experience", it looks like a giant pot calling a little kettle black. Every time they bring up the "abandonment of her family" thing, it sets the feminists to boiling. Every time they bring up "special needs child" they show the sharp contrast of a woman who had the courage to live up to her convictions, as opposed to a man who would commit infanticide on a baby that survived an abortion.
Obama and the Rats were going to make the campaign about McCain, but to the extent they fire on her, they not only don't direct bullets at him, but they see them ricochet back in their own direction!
