Bill Clinton to miss Barack Obama's acceptance speech
Guardian UK ^ | 8/27/2008 | Daniel Nesaw

Bill Clinton will skip Barack Obama's acceptance of the Democratic nomination tomorrow night - a move likely to raise tensions the party has worked hard to soothe at its convention in Denver this week.

The former's president's anticipated absence, first reported by CNN, comes after Hillary Clinton's well-received address to the convention last night in which she urged her nearly 18 million voters to back Obama as loyally as they did her.

Obama will accept the nomination in a speech to a crowd of more than 75,000 at a football stadium.

The former president, who campaigned fiercely for his wife, often to the irritation of the Obama camp and some neutral Democrats, is scheduled to address the convention tonight, speaking on foreign policy.

Terry McAuliffe - the former Democratic party chairman and Hillary Clinton campaign boss, cheerleader and top fundraiser - is also skipping the speech, having told MSNBC television yesterday that he was heading home to be with his children.

Many rank-and-file Hillary Clinton supporters said they would leave town after her speech last night. According to a Washington Post-ABC News poll, 42% of Clinton voters say they are "solidly behind" Obama.

Another 20% say they plan to vote for the Republican nominee, John McCain, even though he is solidly anti-abortion, staunchly supports the war in Iraq and differs dramatically from Clinton on most other policies.

This doesn’t pass the smell test. He can’t stay one more day to wrap up the convention and hear his party nominee acceptance speech????

Wasn’t he planning to attend the nominee’s acceptance speech if it was Hillary???

And the same for Bill Clinton. Bill certainly would have been there if Hillary were giving her acceptance speech. What’s Bill’s excuse for not being there for Barack?

After all this talk of the Clintons feeling “dissed” by Obama over various things, aren’t the Clintonistas doing the same thing to Barack?

Oh well, let’s get more popcorn, and maybe encourage some of those disaffected Democrats to check out the Republican candidate.

But...but...but...the MSM breathlessly told me over & over about how The One would unite literally everybody (even Bubba) into one big Oprah-sized Community Hug.

Bret Baer announced on Fox News earlier this morning that they had confirmation of this. I read on a related thread that they may be busing youths in to fill Invesco Field Thursday night.

It may well be the Obama campaign is having major problems getting visible support even during the convention.

WOW, this seems like a rather huge ‘dis’ to me..... I don’t know how these Demagogues think (fortunately) but to any normal, decent human beings the idea of your party’s last President (and a former DNC chairman who is close to that last President) skipping the acceptance speech of your party’s new nominee to be President..... well that just seems like a huge in-your-face F-U.....

Bubba’s upset that he’ll have to pay for his own interns rather than getting them on the taxpayer’s dime as first lady.

This time Clinton is right. Their true aim, one would think, is to do the bare minimum for the Obamessiah and get out of the way quickly so they don’t get sucked into the vortex as he sinks. The Clintons want Hillary to run in 2012. Period. An Obama presidency doesn’t lend it self to that scenario.

McCain would probably be a one-term president, which leaves the 2012 race wide open if Obama fails.

The “party” hasn’t worked to soothe tensions. That statement is empty rhetoric. RAther, the two camps are having daily ...maybe hourly...cat fights. Mr. and Mrs. Obama have offended Mr.. and Mrs. Bill Clinton with their arrogance.

You don’t fool with the Clintons.

If everyone is a good Democrat these things shouldn’t be happening.

I understand that Hillary wants to run again in 2012 if Obama loses this time. My question is, why does Hillary think that she would be a front runner for 2012? After everything that has happened in this campaign, what makes the Clintons think they are so loved by the Democrat party that Hillary has a good chance in 2012? They thought she was inevitable this time, and we saw how that turned out.

“Bill Clinton will skip Barack Obama’s acceptance of the Democratic nomination tomorrow night - a move likely to raise tensions the party has worked hard to soothe at its convention in Denver this week.”

Nuance my friends. Read between the lines. He is going to skip Obamas acceptance speech because Hillary is going to give the acceptance speech after she steals the nomination with the floor vote.

I don’t think Big Bill is planning on voting for BO. Not to say he’s voting for McCain, but he’s words and actions say he’s not in the Obama camp either.
