Conservative Democrats Peeling Away From Obama
Gallup ^ | August 27, 2008 | Lydia Saad

Posted on 08/27/2008 7:23:10 AM PDT by Soliton

Within the Democratic Party, Obama's losses are primarily evident among the relatively small group that describes its political views as conservative. The 63% of conservative Democrats supporting Obama over McCain in Aug. 18-24 polling is the lowest Obama has earned since he clinched the Democratic nomination in June. At the same time, there have been no similar drops in support for Obama in the preferences of liberal or moderate Democrats.

As a result of this, support for Obama among all Democratic registered voters fell from 81% in early August (Aug. 4-10) to 78% last week (Aug. 18-24). Obama's support from Republicans over this period also dipped from 9% to 7%, while 42% to 43% of independents have consistently supported him.

No token females, please. KBH? Why is she ready to be president? Why is she a good leader? I’m so sick of the pick Steele cuz he’s black, pick Condi cuz she’s a black woman. How about picking someone ready to step in and be president?

"Kay Baily Hutchinson...."

What an interesting idea.
Pro-life, pro-gun, pro-military, minimal baggage, Texas loves her, oh, and she's a woman.

Amen to that!

How about a “pick a strong conservative leader - regardless of race or gender - for VP, Sen. McCain” approach?

The way things are going, McCain might win no matter who he picks. However, picking an older woman who is “moderate” on abortion and border control isn’t going to help him a bit. He needs someone young and very conservative. That would include Cantor, Palin, Steele, and Sanford.

Excellent point. The VP position isn’t something to get cutesy with. Pick the best person that brings the most to the ticket. No tokens.

Kay bring Bush connections - a revisit of Texas politics, and is very blah.

Plus, there’s the Pro-life thing. Voting record only goes so far for someone who openly favors first trimester abortion rights.

Stay away from Kay!

Go with Palin if you want a woman.

CONSERVATIVE Democrats??? CONSERVATIVE DEMOCRATS???

Talk about a contradiction in terms. The Rats who not supporting Obama are either Feminist Democrats or racist liberals (there are such animals). I wouldn’t term either one “conservative”.

She is also Pro-Illegals, and no, Texas does not love her.

My uncle is one of those conservative democrats. He is - I should say, WAS - a yellow dog democrat. He was president or leader of some sort of a union up here in Washington for some time.

He would vote for Nixon before he would vote for Obama. I just talked to him about it a few days ago.

People just don’t get it. The only way Obama will win is if McCain dies just before the election. And being on his death bed does not count.

Barack Obama has been struggling to maintain his Democratic base thus far in August, and according to weekly averages of Gallup Poll Daily tracking, the problem seems to be with conservative Democrats.

Methinks that the ads featuring Marxist Obama's lengthy and close fellow-traveling friendship with America-detesting, domestic terrorist Ayers has a large effect on this Democratic demo group.

Keep these "educational" ads coming, and expand the coverage!

RE: my post 13

Let me add: That is why I am enjoying this election like none in my entire lifetime, and I am 54. If only the Republican nominee were someone other than McCain, I’d be dancing naked in the street.

Go with Palin if you want a woman.

She's not ready. She was mayor of a town with population 5000 before becoming Gov for 2 years in a state with population of 700,000.

Haven’t heard Sanford’s name in a while.
Anybody have any opinions on him - any baggage that he might have?

Actually she is neither, and she was re-elected with 60% of the vote last time (winning 236/254 counties).

It’s true that she is not beloved by Texas democrats.

But it is also true that she is very much loved by the strong majority of Texas voters.
