MAJOR problem with national air traffic...specifically flight plan system....All air traffic halted, nationally.

Not likely affecting departed flights. They already have their flight plans and know where they are going. The issue is with pending flights, whose flight plans are in question. They will be delayed.
Strange unless ordered to stand down on reporting, wouldn’t be the first time.Prevent panic possibly.

You know I would not know the difference as to how it’s listed on FR’s pages. I operate probably different than most in that I keep all the sidebars shut down and work off the latest comments page. I find that anything going on of importance will show up multiple times per page load on comments...... Usually in the AM I’ll look at the articles posted since I last was online.
Take care and keep an eye on the Gulf for early next week. We may get a blow.

Whoop, tail end of report heard via LA radio news that there are delays all over the country, calling it widespread.
Flights currently in the air I believe are not affected. There are rolling delays going from east to west. Denver was beginning to pile up the delays coming from the east.
Looks like the site is messed up too. Airports alternating from amber to green with some reds and yellows.
I would guess (based on no experience in the industry), this is a building problem that we don’t see yet using live information.

LAX approach from far east from LAX...The skies have no aircraft on approach that we can see.
I’m near Palmdale and I can usually look up and see the line as well. Empty sky right now.

You bet. I am currently east of LAX near the eastern approach, several dozen miles east of LAX. Have not seen an aircraft for over 15 minutes. Very unusual.

Local Los Angeles tv is wall-to-wall with a fire in Agoura Hills/near Calabasas. I turned it on wondering if they were looking at LAX yet.

After all the years of living with visibility of the flight path, it still catches me off-guard sometimes, watching just how MANY flights are ongoing at any given time, it’s so busy — especially at night when you can watch the lights one after the next. So, yeah. Having it disappear is disconcerting.
I am surprised this isn’t on all the news channels.
Still looking, zero aircraft on the eastern approach to LAX that we can see. I’d like to know what happened to all the aircraft that were in flight, on approach. Diverted?
