Presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain may announce his choice for a running mate earlier than expected, sources told FOX News on Monday.
McCain had previously said he would announce his vice presidential pick on Friday and would appear with that individual at a rally in Dayton, Ohio, following the announcement. Friday is McCain’s 72nd birthday.
But sources close to McCain’s campaign told FOX News that his decision may come sooner than that — possibly on Thursday, when Barack Obama accepts the Democratic nomination at Invesco field in Denver, Colo.
McCain campaign spokesman Tucker Bounds diminished the news.
“I wouldn’t much weight into reports that there are windows of possibility,” he said.
Several names have come up repeatedly as McCain’s possible running mate, including former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge and, perhaps, Democrat-turned-independent Joe Lieberman of Connecticut. Also named is Gen. David Petraeus, the incoming head of Central Command.

But in the end I am afraid he will do the same dull thing that Obama did and go with Mitt. No offense to all my LDS friends, but Mitt is a nice guy who has been lucky enough in the right place at the right time—not a true, gritty, executive. I’d still vote for a McCain Romney ticket, but with deep regrets for a missed opportunity.
The Democrats meanwhile are running two of the biggest horse's patoots in the Senate who just happen to be the most liberal and share a common interest of being empty suits.

I disagree. I think Huck would do okay. Romney would too. At this point, unless he chooses a pro-choice liberal, McCain has the Conservative vote.
He reversed himself in the right direction.

In an interview with PolitickerOH.com, Kasich said there are no behind-the-scenes discussions with the McCain campaign.
"There's no secret meetings, there's no secret handshakes, there's nothing like that," Kasich said.
Kasich, the former U.S. representative from Columbus, said he hasn't paid attention to major mentions of him as a VP pick from the Wall Street Journal, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) and members of The National Review - all of whom recently have said Kasich would be a solid running mate for McCain.
"I don't pay a lot of attention to it. This is the third time. I went through this with Dole, I went through this with Bush and now my name has surfaced with McCain. It's always nice, I'm flattered by it, but my attention is focused on Ohio," he said.
When asked if it was safe to say that he's not interested in becoming vice president, Kasich reiterated his aloofness to the idea.
"It's safe to say that I don't pay any attention to it - it's just writing," he said. "I'm paying about as much attention to that as Brett Farve going to the Jets."
Kasich was with McCain at a fundraiser last night but the conversation didn't go much beyond "hello," he said. However, Kasich said he believes McCain is the right man to lead their party.
"I think that McCain has been a very solid Republican. He doesn't really march to the tune of the Republican establishment. That doesn't make him not a Republican. If being a Republican means you have to be for earmarks I guess that means he isn't a good Republican," Kasich said.
Kasich has previously criticized the GOP for betraying its beliefs and failing the country, but he said the party is still the best when it lives up to its principals.
"I think the Republican philosophy when properly applied is the right philosophy. I think the problem we've had is that we in too many instances over the last few years is we've been Republican in name only," Kasich said.
According to Kasich, the GOP's philosophy of cutting taxes, shrinking and modernizing government, introducing choice in education and controlling bureaucracy is what Ohio needs. Meanwhile, Democrats' favor big government and have been paralyzed in the face of the state's problems, he added.
Kasich said he's been to at least 45 of Ohio's 88 counties in the past 15 months to hear people's concerns about the state and share his ideas on how to fix Ohio, which he's previous described as being in a "death spiral."
Kasich said he's "very concerned" about the GOP losing the state House and has been making appearances with state representatives at fundraisers.
Last month Kasich launched his "Recharge Ohio" political action committee to raise money for Republicans running for state House and Senate.

IMHO, here is why I think John Kasich would be the PERFECT VP CHOICE:
HE KNOWS MORE AND HAS DONE MORE about the US economy, than the Obammassiah and "Plugs", ON A BIPARTISAN BASIS, and GOT THINGS DONE!!
The economy is supposed to be the #1 concern to the voters in 2008. Kasich would CLEAN THE FLOOR with "Plugs" in the VP debate!!! McCain has the CIC stuff covered, the dems are ALREADY runnign the McCain "I don't know much about the economy" late 2007 quote, along with the "5 mil is rich" ad .
Adding Kasich as VP would do a lot for ending that portion of the dem attack on McCain. Kasich would be MORE than able to handle any doubts about the REPUB the economy portion of the REPUB ticket WITH FACTS AND FIGURES TO BACK IT UP!!.
Kasich has NO REAL TIES TO PRESIDENT BUSH that the dems can try to tie to him like they do to McCain, ( the 4 more years of Bush's failed policies semmingly non-stop dem mantra also being used in their ads)), and he could maybe get things done because he knows HOW TO from his House experience.
Kasick can HANDLE HIMSELF IN FRONT OF A CAMERA!!!.....(watch him when he has a lib on when he substitutes for BOR on FOX!!).
...and....he's still fairly "young" cronologically, and HE'S A FISCAL AND SOCIAL CONSERVATIVE and HAS THE CREDENTIALS TO PROVE IT therefore maybe making the Conservatives happy.
Oh....and since the MSM has been POUNDING the fact that NO REBPUB running for POTUS has won the WH without taking Ohio since....well IIRC the quote was somewhere around at least 1952 ???.......did I mention he's from OHIO???
The Wall Streeter's and business community would probably be THRILLED with the choice of Kasich, knowing that their interests would be first, and not TAXING them like the dems "take from the rich and give to the freeloaders" socialist crap that they are chomping at the bit to force on the "producers" in this country, and would probably DONATE HEAVILY to make it happen, along with the so far disgruntled conservatives.
OK...sorry for the rant.
But, if on or before Friday August 29th in DAYTON OHIO.....McCain introduces his VP John Kasich to the STUNNED and SHOCKED MSM , the EXTREMELY RELIEVED CONSERVATIVES ,and all the rest of the American people, I believe it's a 2008 Republican win for the GOP.!!!

Just after Obama announced Biden, McCain’s campaign released an ad and made the statement...
“...Obama deliberately slighted Clinton by passing over her to pick Delaware Sen. Joe Biden as his vice presidential running mate. “Who won millions of votes but isn’t on the ticket?”
By that logic, he must choose the runner up or, at least, a former candidate that “won millions of votes”. Or face charges of being a hypocrite.
It wasn’t a smart ad.
