Does anyone know if Barack H. Obama "The One" registered for the draft?

US law requires that all males register for the draft on or before their 18th birthday. I wonder if Barry bothered.

I’m pretty sure there was no draft registration when Barry would have been eligible.

Citizens of the world are exempt from the draft.

I don’t know if he did. I didn’t, but then I was going into ROTC immediately (and I made that decision before I was 18), so I don’t know. I can’t say not registering makes one less patriotic per se. Personally I’m against the draft, but I understand why people are offended and annoyed when people don’t register.

I’m about the same age as obamba, and I did have to register for the selective service.

Well, y’all must be younger than I thought. I thought he was within a couple of years of me. I’m 50, and there wasn’t any registration when I was 18.

There isn’t a draft now, but still have to register when you turn 18.

The new process for registration began when I turned 18 (1978); He’s @ 1.5 years younger, so would have had to register @ 1979-1980. I read that he registered. Doesn’t mean he did, but I am inclined to believe what I read.

I’m neither offended or annoyed, but the law is the law and it requires that all males register. As far as I know that law has been on the books since the end of the actual draft.

You didn't when I was 18.

I believe selective service was temporarily discontinued in 1975, then continued again in 1980. Pax Obama would have had to register.

There’s a window........I stole this from wiki....

“On March 25, 1975, Pres. Gerald Ford signed Proclamation 4360, Terminating Registration Procedures Under Military Selective Service Act, eliminating the registration requirement for all 18-25 year old male citizens. Then on July 2, 1980, President Jimmy Carter signed Proclamation 4771, Registration Under the Military Selective Service Act, retroactively re-establishing the Selective Service registration requirement for all 18-26 year old male citizens born on or after January 1, 1960. Only men born between March 29, 1957, and December 31, 1959, were completely exempt from Selective Service registration.”

As far as I know that law has been on the books since the end of the actual draft.

There was a small window where you did not have to register for the draft:

Men born from March 29, 1957, through December 31, 1959, were not required to register with Selective Service because the registration program was suspended when they would have reached age 18. The requirement to register with Selective Service was reinstated in 1980, but only for men born January 1, 1960, or later.
