Two New York City businessmen have pleaded guilty in a scheme to distribute more than 500,000 tubes of counterfeit toothpaste imported from China.
Fifty-one-year-old Saifoulaye Diallo and 47-year-old Habib Bah each face up to 10 years in prison after entering their pleas Thursday in federal court in Brooklyn.
Prosecutors say the fake Colgate toothpaste was shipped to discount stores across the United States. They say it had no fluoride and contained microorganisms that posed health threats, but no illnesses have been reported.

MS USA Trading, Inc. of North Bergen, N.J., said the toothpaste may contain diethylene glycol, a chemical found in antifreeze.
The company said the toothpaste, imported from South Africa, was sold in discount stores in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Maryland.
“Made in South Africa” is printed on the box and includes Regular, Gel, Triple and Herbal versions.

Consumers should be on the alert for illegally manufactured counterfeit products and should be aware that counterfeit products may present a health risk. On June 13, 2007, MS USA Trading, Inc. announced a recall in four states of counterfeit product falsely labeled as Colgate. Here are some indicators to look for to identify the counterfeit product:
The counterfeit toothpaste comes labeled as a 5 ounce (or 100 ml tube), a size not made or sold by Colgate in the United States
There are words on the package, “Manufactured by: COLGATE-PALMOLIVE (PTV) LTD., SOUTH AFRICA – 52 Commissioner Street, Boksburg, 1460”
There may be several misspelled words on the product carton including: “isclinically”, “SOUTH AFRLCA” and “South African Dental Assoxiation”

Previous meetings of the Group have been held in South Africa (thus the name of the Group), Singapore, and Jamaica.

I had an odd dream last night. I had found a bird's egg, put it in the trunk of the car and forgot about it. Days later I found the egg, and noticed that it was cracked and about to hatch. It was also larger than the egg I had originally found (was the size of a sparrow's egg but later the size of a small chicken egg).
I watched as it hatched, but it revealed a dead, black, shriveled bird. But the egg was still moving - something else in there was trying to get out. Yeah, a snake. Bleccch. I woke up about the time I was attempting to smoosh the whole thing before the snake escaped.
For some reason, the dream seems relevant. Have a nice day.
