The International Olympic Committee has ordered an investigation into mounting allegations that Chinese authorities covered up the true age of their gold-medal winning gymnastics star because she was too young to compete.
An IOC official told The Times that because of "discrepancies" that have come to light about the age of He Kexin, the host nations darling who won gold in both team and individual events, an official inquiry has been launched that could result in the gymnast being stripped of her medals.
The investigation was triggered as a US computer expert claimed today to have uncovered Chinese government documents that he says prove she is only 14 - making her ineligible to compete in the Olympics - rather than 16, as officials in Beijing insist is her age.
Mike Walker, a computer security expert, told The Times how he tracked down two documents that he says had been removed from a Chinese government website. The documents, he said, stated that Hes birth date was January 1 1994 - making her 14 - and not January 1 1992, which is printed in her passport.

Good. They have too many gold medals. Stupid communists...
In other news, Mike Walker, a computer security expert, was found dead in his VA home this evening.
A victim of an obvious suicide....
The Olympics have a lot of goofy new rules now......and I'm wondering if any of our guys and gals will receive what they deserve.
It would be a shame if her winning positions were just declared "vacant" and no one else in the line after her would get doodly.

I’m glad this is proceeding. It was and is apparently obvious to anyone who saw that child compete, that she is not 16. The Chinese should be ashamed. As an aside, it was also obvious that the fix was in in some way as to the judging in gymnastics. Too many Chi-com athletes scored way better than they should have been scored.

I know, I’m just pretending to be overly bitter. But there’s no way some of those girls on the gymnastics team are 16.
Yes, they should. But morality and totalitarianism mix as well as oil and water.
I agree!
That North Korean vaulter was a joke. She stepped out both vaults and still won.

My wife noted that one of the biggest mistakes the Chinese made was having REAL Chinese women bring the medals and flowers to the winners. Seeing a Chinese gymnast stand in the same frame as a real Chinese woman dispelled any notion that maybe the Chinese women just dont look mature. These were little pre-pubescent girls.
Ask her brother.
Yes, everyone moves up and is given the correct medals. This even happenned earlier this year when the US track star Marion Jones admitted to setriod use, I can’t remember which Olympics, but it was not the last summer games, maybe the one before. She gave back her medals and all the others were moved up.
Did He participate in any of the events for team finals? I’m sure she must have participated at least in bars. If so, and it’s determined that she’s underage, wouldn’t China be stripped of the team gold?
Well, isn’t that shocking—NOT! I guess they will send the US contestant her gold in a brown paper bag next month.
Yes, but this assumes that the IOC, which is about as corrupt a group as the UN, will get to the bottom of it, which is about as likely as me beating Michael Phelps in the 200 fly, which I actually was pretty good at about 30 years ago.

Yes. She also took gold from Nastia Luikin in the uneven bars because of biased, unfair judging.
How are they going to really prove her age? It’s not like they could perform a carbon dating on her...
