A few weeks ago, I noted a shift in polling data indicating that Barack Obama's stranglehold on the so-called "youth vote" was weakening. A Reuters summary of the latest Zogby poll confims the trend:
"Obama's support among voters between the ages of 18 and 29, which had been one of his strengths, slipped 12 percentage points to 52 percent. McCain, who will turn 72 next week, was winning 40 percent of younger voters."
Anecdotally, I can attest that several of my friends fellow twenty-somethings who were once quite enthusiastic about Obama have recently expressed disappointment in his campaign. "I'm so sick of reading headlines like 'Obama Slams McCain,' or vice versa," one told me. "I thought that this campaign would actually be different, but it's not. It's depressing."
The more Obama wades into the mud, the less transcendent he appears, and his Unity/Hope/Change message is exposed for the vacuous nonsense that it is. This data should be worrisome for Team Obama because their ultimate base is slipping away. Perhaps it's time for another super-hip will.i.am video.
BTW, I've never believed this the youth vote will finally show up this year stuff. I've heard that from the Dims every year since the 60's and it ain't happened yet.
“Pre- or post- points wealth fair and just redistribution?”
No. Just so he would feel good about himself, regardless of his score because everyone’s a winner. I guess the subtext of my previous post was that his biggest supporters are: (1) a generation of kids that have grown up on the self-esteem crap—Everyone gets a trophy!!! It tends to make them unable to discern between worse and better, good and evil; (2) Blacks who have grown up on affirmative action, which deliberately blurs distinctions between capable and incapable, better and worse; and (2) PhD’s in French Philosophy and Queer Studies. Who knows what they think. They probably like the nuance. Or maybe the guys just think Barry’s hot.
Another thought for the Hillary-as-veep mill: if she’s the veep, there go all the “new” “young” and “hopeful” voters.
Kids are quite savvy and have heard nearly every BS sales pitch at the video stores that any of these amateur politicians can offer.
Hope?
excellent...just as good.
Obama bowled 37? LOL. I am no good at bowling, play maybe once every 5 years, but I’ve never scored close to that low.
I am sure his excuse would be that he never did it before. He’s a hoops man. Don’t let anyone tell you that lack of experience doesnt matter.
while chatting with a twenty something young father...he ASKED me my thoughts on Obama....I said he lacked experience and what experience he DID have was from Chicago’s corrupt political scene........THEN I moved on to McCain...told him that McCain was beaten in the infamous Hanoi Hilton and has proven his devotion to his country....has developed the character needed to lead his country.....he looked sold on McCain to me......said his stepfather was a Viet Nam Vet and he could relate to that. Told him the negatives (to me) about his second marriage and his liberal voting record and nothing dispelled the positive image McCain had made. LOL....it was easy. Hope it stuck. The young adult voters CAN be impressed with this McCain over Obama.
It is a leap year.
Should put a squre ball in that pic.
Is there suppose to be an “a” in squre?
“My son dislikes politics...but he hates taxes more.” Smart young man! I did hear a young female caller on Hannity’s radio show a couple of weeks ago. She was saying that most of her college friends were liberals and had been gung-ho for the Obama at first, but they were all getting sick of him and all the media coverage. Said they were falling off the band wagon like flies. GOOD!!! I’m praying that more and more of them wake up!
I'm sure Obama's campaign will claim that McCain somehow cheated Obama of a better score...
Not if it hurts your self esteem.
“My son dislikes politics... but he hates taxes more.”
Now that’s a keeper, and great reason for the most unlikely people to get involved.
