IMO, when a law is not enforced on any level for 20+ years...it’s not a valid law.
These workers could be licensed every two years, just like barbers and contractors...for a fee.
Maybe it’s just me, but if I were Jewish, I certainly would not be comfortable with muslims who hate Jews handling my food.

Would that be the very liberal concept of a 'living wage?' How much would be enough to attract Americans? Would (whatever amount that is) that amount be economically feasible to the company paying the wage when looked at from a profitability perspective?
There is a reason companies like illegals and 'cheap legals' (with cheap legals being legal immigrants, both professional and unskilled, who will do the job for less) ....simply put, cost. It is not because they work harder (although in many cases the work ethic is higher), it is simply because they work cheaper. This brings in the issue of accounting vs economic profit, which just cements the entire shebang. If your meat packing business makes 1m in revenues, and your costs are 800K, then you make an accounting profit of 200K. Simple. However, let us say that if your factory could feasibly be in Oklahoma City instead of Dallas, and in OKC it would have costs of 100K instead of 800K, then what it means is that by staying in Dallas ....even though you have an accounting profit of + 200K, you have an economic LOSS of 700K.
This is the reason you so the outsourcing move really take off some years back. It is not that those companies were not making profits in the US ....they were making solid accounting profits. It is that they would be making significant economic losses if they did not move, which would be compounded all the more by them staying and their competitors moving.
This is what occurs on a smaller scale with illegals. Greater economic profit.
Take out the illegals and they simply move to the next step ....'cheap legals.' They are not as cheap as illegals (since, having rights, they will not work for chicken feed), but they are still cheaper than born-and-bred Americans. They will also not work the ridiculous hours of illegals, but a person who used to work in Sri Lanka or Ghana for 80 hours a week at a buck-fifty an hour will gladly work 65 hours a week at 7 dollars an hour.
It was, thus, inevitable that the next move from Mexican illegals would be 'cheap legals,' in this case the cheapest available (the Somali immigrants). That way they get almost the same cost structure that they had before, but without ICE raids.
If the Somali workers were to get shut out, then they would simply move up to the next rung (maybe university students from South American countries with work permits under the hardship clause). What will NOT happen is for them to pay 'Americans more' for such types of labor, unless the American CONSUMER is willing to pay far more for the product (and not buy cheaper competing produce). If Americans are willing to double or triple their wallet-share for the products, then the manufacturer/producer can make more.
However, that is not the case. People will talk of how they are willing to pay more for American, but most will waltz and buy stuff that is made in China (let alone in America ....albeit by illegals). Money talks, bull$h!t walks! Every single time. I actually laugh when I see people claiming that they wish they could find American products, when it is obvious that most of them would not be willing to pay double or triple (in case of things like TVs even more than four times) for the products. People just yap to make themselves feel good, but they would not take any real action.
The shocking thing in all this is that ICE actually spent 10 million dollars to raid the plant! That is truly amazing, because everyone and their uncle is not willing to act (or pay) for the consequences of truly taking a stand against illegals. Maybe ICE had too much money to burn, or maybe they wanted to make an account for their budget by making some move. Or maybe they were bored.
Well ....maybe they should have taken that 10 million dollars, given it to the Meat Plant, and told them to up the salaries using it. Maybe then they would hire Americans.
Even then, the company would probably just hire university students from abroad. Why do you think the IT industry also snaps up all H1 visa in a mere couple of hours! Those foreign workers are not cheap (they are not hiring phone operators), but the thing is that when measured from an economic profit/loss perspective (and not the simple accounting profit/loss) then it makes sense to hire a person at 100K per year, than hiring an American at 125K.
They are considered “refugees”.
When you put the “kosher” label on something, it means something. It is not a government stamp. It is from another tradition.
The consumer expects it to meet a certain health and preparation standard.
Could it be said that this meat is halal instead of kosher? Who is saying the prayers as the animals are killed? How are they killed? Any other aspects of the processing?
Years ago I worked for Dawn foods here in Michigan. Once a month we made our Kosher mixes. That was the time when several Rabbis came in to do their thing and to supervise that everything was done correctly.

Interesting development. Since they're legal, the question revolves around the government's choices in issuing visas. I hope they're all properly vetted, and that the employer or employee are absorbing the costs of the necessary security checks.

Three issues I see here.
Employment of illegals, that has to be stopped and was.
Employ legal workers, the employer seems to have accomplished that.
Issue visas to individuals who, as legal transients, will minimize the disruption to the local community. Along with vetting them for security, criminal and health problems, and assuring they have health and liability coverage. That's the governments responsibility, though the economic issues could be legislatively left to the employer. We'll see how they've done with that.
Although most Jews in the US who even bother with Kosher food probably (note: this is my unconfirmed assumption that could be 200% wrong) do not care that much as to the level of 'Kosher.' If they did then they wouldn't have been buying from the plant when it was using illegals (Christians) just as much as they wouldn't from the Muslims.
The extremely serious Jews I know of simply do their own slaughtering ....same thing with the really fervent muslims when it comes to Halal food. True ardents will not just buy something because the label says 'kosher' or 'halal.' That label could have been bought for 2 cents a dozen, and the meat could be strangled crow baked in blood!
Thus I doubt most people, even when they claim to be buying Kosher (or halal) really care that much. I look at it as a form of a Christian wedding where the bride wears white even though she lost her virginity 26 men before the man she is marrying (and same for the man).

Ummmm, I’m sorry, but was it not the management of the Kosher plant who hired the Muslims, NOT the US government who removed the illegals?
