“which is a myth in OK as there is no central database for gun info or a method by which one could be put together.”
The firearms “InstaCheck” IS a gun database. It is maintained by State and federal agencies.
The correct response to this 'request' to 'volunteer' is "Get a Warrant."

I thought the same thing . Unless something has changed since I kept records , they would have to go to each FFL dealer and sift through his records . That involves a hell of a lot of assumptions . I don’t blame the cops for using every tool available to solve a crime , but those who said the record keeping was not a step to enable confiscation need to pay attention .
I’m thinking... that it might have something to do with the concealed carry permit thing?
Not sure how OK works these days. Here they don’t ask you what kind of weapon you carry, so no one knows unless I tell them what I carry.
Next time there is a hit and run accident all car owners should be prepared to line up as suspects.
Why would a murder bring his gun to the police so they can identify him... My best guess is that the murder weapons were never registered, because most criminals don’t bother to register their weapons, or follow the law.
PA state police have been keeping an illegal database of purchased firearms for years. They were told by the judiciary to stop and they said no.
On August 5, 2008, at hit ad run occurred which resulted in the death of a pedestrian.
Our forensic experts have concluded a dark red vehicle (insert make here since paint colors can be traced to manufacturers) was involved and after we looked through the DMV documents we have concluded you are the owner of a dark red vehicle (make here again).
We request that you take a day of your vacation time to come to our location and submit your vehicle to an inspection to verify that you were not the culprit.
Thank you for your time.
Multiply this by several investigations and we will have lines of people having to take time off from work to justify to Big Brother that we are Innocent.
We did not do anything so we should submit to any and all requests like this.
I dunno. It’s like agreeing to let a cop look through your vehicle during a routine traffic stop.
If you allow him, you’re giving up your 4th Amendment rights. Same with this.
Too many people watch C.S.I. and think that giving a DNA sample (or somesuch) is necessary to “clear themselves.”
Sorry, but I don’t need to “clear myself.” If they think I’m guilty of something, the burden of proof is upon THEM.
If they think my firearm...errr...if I had any...was involved in a crime, then they need to abide by the rules, and show proof of it.
Yeah, because the person that was guilty is really going to bring in their firearm for ballistics testing.
If I lived in that town and could provide proof that I was out of town when the girls were murdered, I’d go there, do so, and tell them to get a warrant if they want to test my pistol.
Basically telling them to pound sand.
If they have been able with the recovered bullets to determine the caliber not hard and the make of the pistol used then they could go to the manufacture and ask for records of guns of that type sent to dealer's in that area.
no gov data base would be involved
