VP Alert (McCain Camp Now ACTIVELY Calling Leaders on Possibility of Selling Pro-Choice Pick)
National Review ^ | 8-19-08 | Rich Lowry

Posted on 08/19/2008 7:49:51 AM PDT by TitansAFC

NR has learned that the McCain campaign has been calling key state GOP officials around the country the last couple of days and sounding them out about the consequences of a pro-choice VP pick. The campaign is asking about the reaction of conservative grass-roots activists to such a pick and whether a pro-choicer can be sold to them. This is an indication that the McCain campaign is serious about the possibility of a pro-choice VP nominee and that McCain leaving the door open to Tom Ridge last week may not have been merely a friendly nod to a longtime supporter. In this scenario, McCain's emphatic pro-life statements Saturday night and his pledge that he'll run a "pro-life administration" would have been partly an attempt to reassure conservatives in the event of a pro-choice pick. Here is NR's take today on why going with a pro-choicer would be a mistake for McCain.

If McCain's advisers are telling him that it's ok then after McCain loses he needs to find out which one is also working for Obama.

“If he thinks he can pick up PA by selecting Ridge, he’s delusional.”

You got that right

Methinks McCain wants to pick one of his close buddies from the Senate.

This is why Americans rarely pick Senators to lead. Too often they hear “my Good Friend, Mathusula, and he is my good friend...we just disaggree on this issue...” and go the other way. OK Senator we get the star chamber comitee but we are affaid you take it way too seriously to be trusted.

The question to ask yourself isn’t would you still vote for McCain. You’ve alluded to the fact that you would. The question is would profoundly religious Christians be able to vote for McCain, and the answer is that enough would feel compelled to stay home or vote third party to give the election to Obama.

For most profoundly religious people, morality transcends politics. They will not condone murder and collude with its perpetrators to keep Obama out of the White House for the next four years.

...but Ridge would bring PA to the GOP this fall...

He's just not that popular here.

If anyone brings PA to the GOP this fall, it is Baraq Hussein Obama.

If I can’t trust him to pick a pro-life VP, how can I trust him on Supreme Court Justices?

The ball is in your court Senator McCain.

What others have said here about it nullifying his commitment to pro-lifers made at Saddleback is something we must get across. He made a commitment. Now one week later he’s reneging on it? Give me a break.

I believe that is correct. I was just talking to some bona fide independent PA voters this past weekend. They are voting McCain because of Obama. Had Hillary been the nominee, they'd be voting for Hillary because of their strong disapproval of GWB. But McCain has been able to convince these voters he is not the same as GWB, and hence, he's going to get their votes, and I believe, win PA, regardless of his veep pick.

“Regardless of the abortion issue Ridge is a weak choice. Probably a very good man, a war hero I believe but he got a bad rep after Homeland Security. Sadly, his hearing problem makes him come off a bit odd, unfair as that is.
I think Lieberman is the real possibility.”

MCain was in York,PA last week and the first 3 people off of the bus were, McCain, Tom Ridge and Joe Lieberman

As always, McCain looks for any chance to do a switch on his supporters. Same as always. Promise anything, then stab us in the back. We had 3 of those major episodes before he even started running.

It will be 4 years of being stabbed in the back to show us who is boss. Of course, has he ever disappointed any democrat? No, only conservatives.

Well, he may get my vote this time because of an Obama - but my money will not be sent, my support is so weak I do nothing and the first chance to support a more dependable man for the next election, McCain will be left in the dust, sort of like he always leaves us in the dust.

Two can play this stupid game.
