THE Palestinian protesters massed at the fence expected tear gas and rubber bullets; what they got instead was a putrid yellow wind, Israel's newest weapon against West Bank demonstrators.
The noxious mist, which Israeli police refer to as "skunk," was used for the first time earlier this month, when a truck-mounted cannon sprayed it over the heads of protesters, sending them racing down the hillside, retching and tearing off their shirts to try to escape the stench.
Dozens of Palestinians from the village of Bilin, along with international and Israeli activists, had marched to a nearby segment of Israel's controversial separation barrier to demand its removal, just as they have done every Friday for the last three and a half years.
"No, no to settlements; no, no to the wall!" they shouted, as they waved Palestinian flags and posters of Yusef Amira, a 16-year-old shot dead by Israeli police at a protest in a neighbouring village last month.
The Israeli border police called on them to disperse through loudspeakers, warning them they were near a "closed military zone."
Then the skunk truck arrived, spraying a cloud of yellow mist and filling the air with the suffocating stench of faeces and urine.

Would sure like to get a spray bottle of that stuff for keeping the rabbits, deer and squirrels out of my garden!
[I’m hoping it would work better than the useless compound I tried a few weeks ago, which was largely a mixture of rotten eggs and red peppers.]
That’s what friends are for.
I’m glad that they didn’t use a real skunk on the so-called palestinians. That would have been considered cruelty to the poor animal.
The Denver Police need this on hand to counter the attacks by the anarchists who've stockpiled feces and urine in a warehouse for "street action".
So now it will become an arms race of stink bombs, whoopie cushions, fart spray, silly string, and exploding cigars.
One can only imagine how much faster they would have dispersed had the truck sprayed essence of soap and deodorant.
They found it repulsive because it lacked the odor of goats..

The only way I can think to make this concoction better, is to let it be known that it contains PIG feces and urine....
I looked up "Ethyl Mercaptan" and it seems that is the stuff they add to natural gas to make it smell bad as a warning indicator for gas leaks.

Doing a bit of online searching for chemical stink bad odor practical jokes I found this stuff available.
Seems to me not a very funny practical joke, but something worth knowing about in case of being in a situation where this smell has suddenly appeared and knowing that this stuff is available for some practical joker or anarchist type to use to disrupt operations in / deny access to an area.

The local nerd had ethyl. It does not hang around as long as some of the others. n-Butyl Mercaptan is natural skunk juice.
