Britain 'recruiting gay spies'
Herald Sun ^ | 18 August 2008

BRITAIN'S domestic intelligence agency MI5 is actively recruiting gay spies and wants its staff to be more open about their sexuality, the Financial Times has reported.

The chief executive of Stonewall, a gay rights lobby group, told the business paper it had been hired by the Security Service - better known as MI5 - to help the agency encourage more gay applicants for positions.

"Historically, public services were delivered by the man from the ministry, who was white and heterosexual and got the 4.30pm (train) back to Tunbridge Wells every afternoon,'' Ben Summerskill said.

"This (move by MI5) is recognition that the establishment is changing and slowly becoming more reflective of wider society.''

Britain's intelligence agencies have in recent years attempted to cast a wider net when it comes to recruiting - the country's foreign intelligence service MI6 placed its first-ever advertisement for jobs in a newspaper in May 2007, and in recent years, it has launched its own website.

They are looking to get traitor ring, like the Cambridge Five.

All of the Cambridge Five came from privileged backgrounds, and two of the others, Guy Burgess and Anthony Blunt, were known to be homosexuals. It is sometimes stated that Maclean was, too, and Guy Burgess claimed to have seduced him, but it seems more likely that he was bisexual.

Maybe the Brits believe folks who are “light in the loafers” will be more stealthy?

Well, if they were really ruthless, I’d use gay spies against Islamic nations. Entrap their diplomats and so forth in bed and then blackmail them.

After all, pictures of the Iranian Ambassador in bed with another man have got to be worth more than those of, say, a U.S. Senator.

I’m sorry, I’m just not watching a gay James Bond. If 007 doesn’t get the hots for a couple of sultry ladies the film just won’t be worth watching.

Oh, wait, are we talking about the real world here? Well the same principle applies...... unless it becomes necessary to seduce gay spies from the other side..... but it’s probably MI5 that will end up being infiltrated this way.

...um...the Taliban, al Queda, the Russians and other people we want to spy on tend to be violently opposed to homosexuality, so this could be a problem for people trying to fit in.

Now if the Swedes and the French were threatening the world, then gay spies would be an excellent idea...

Anytime I see an organization or company of any kind announce that they’re going to hire more gays, I can only conclude that the individual making that decision is one.

Yeah, I figured there was a joke in there but felt others here would be a lot better than I at the humor.

"I thought they were all gay already."

Well...they certainly have a precedent for this sort of thing...

There's also been some recent scholarship suggesting that Aleister Crowley had drifted in and out of the British intelligence establishment, and he was a known, if not self-declared, bisexual...
