Well, he hasn't gotten all that he wanted, but should it really be a surprise that the Bear has come out of hibernation?

These “quotes” would be a whole lot more convincing and effective if the site linked directly to the source, instead of to another page of their website.

...One, we want the Americans to withdraw conventional forces from Europe. Two, we want them to withdraw nuclear forces from Europe. Three, we want the Americans to stop proceeding with Strategic Defense Initiative."...So, how did that work out, Mikey?

Well, he hasn't gotten all that he wanted, but should it really be a surprise that the Bear has come out of hibernation?Yup...and, don't forget, the quote from our dear president about looking into Pootie-Poot's eyes and "seeing the soul of a man I can trust" while our next president, John McCain, said "when I look into Putin's eyes I see KGB!" Oh, how I wish we could have a do-over in the 2000 GOP primary!

The quote has been around a long time. I don’t necessarily think modern Russia wants to advertise comments from the Soviet Politburo.

Ideas are far more powerful than guns.
We don’t allow our enemies to have guns,
why should we allow them to have ideas?

Maybe it's just me, but this "Soviet Bear coming out of hibernation" is more like Benito Mussolini trying to revive the Roman Empire. Both invaded a small, relatively helpless country. Just wait until they try to roll through Ukraine and Poland...they can kick butt.
I think we should try some black-op right out of a Tom Clancy or Dale Brown novel, with some stealth bombers taking out the obsolescent tanks, hitting some of the fat, out-of-shape Russian reservists, and generally sowing chaos. Then, when the Russkies leave Georgia with their tail between their legs, let the Soviets kill Putin for trying to mess with America.

New Lies for Old
In 1984, Golitsyn published the book New Lies For Old[3], wherein he predicted the collapse of the communist bloc orchestrated from above. He warned about a long-term deception strategy designed to lull the West into a false sense of security, and finally economically cripple and diplomatically isolate the United States. Among other things, Golitsyn stated:
* “The ‘liberalization’ [in the Soviet Union] would be spectacular and impressive. Formal pronouncements might be made about a reduction in the communist party’s role; its monopoly would be apparently curtailed.”
* “If [liberalization] should be extended to East Germany, demolition of the Berlin Wall might even be contemplated.”
* “The European Parliament might become an all-European socialist parliament with representation from the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe. ‘Europe from the Atlantic to the Urals’ would turn out to be a neutral, socialist Europe.”

The biggest difference is that Germany had first-rate equipment, brilliant generals, and a fit army and air force. The Rooskies have overweight reservists, obsolescent armor, and Generals who have little to no control over their men. The only reason the Georgians fled was simply numerical superiority.
I'm still for a black-op strike on all those tanks.
To: durasell
We have not yet used our greatest weapon...Wall St. It is time to let the Rooskies know who holds all the cards in this poker game. It is time to get every American bank, mutual fund, insurance company, foundation and every other institution to start selling every Russian stock that we own. Choke the Rooskies in billions of overnight losses and convince the Europeans to do the same. Let the Rooskies know that if you want to be a bully, there is not a single place on earth outside of Russia to park your rubles!

We have not yet used our greatest weapon...Wall St. It is time to let the Rooskies know who holds all the cards in this poker game. ROTFLOL! And who is going to finance this idea of going against markets? That sort of thinking is expensive, as the USSR found out.
And also, I suppose you haven't looked at the Russian market manipulations in advance of the Georgian invasion, eh?
